Moving to Gainesville and curious about memberships

We just got a place in Haile Plantation and I know there is a country club there but I think it may be slightly out of my price range for a membership. Are there any courses around the area that have a really good deal for memberships? I've started playing a lot more than usual so I think it would be in my best interest to just go ahead and sign up...

Do you have any connection with UF? They offer street, facility/staff and alumni membership. It's a great classic Donald Ross course.

Neither one of us (me or my wife) are alumni but she will be working for Shands Hospital system for her residency and I think that would count as working for UF...

I checked it out and it looked like a nice course, are there any other courses in the area that you've played and would be worth checking out?

From a native's point. Haile & Gainesville C.C. Are the 2 privates courses here. Both good tracks. Gainesville CC is an older layout where all the old time Gainesville players join and Haile is probably more of the newer, younger, working members join/play. Both are out of my price range, as far as memberships go, so can't advise you there. Ironwood (owned by the city) and U.F. Are the other (2) public courses. UF is the nicer, although shorter of the (2). I know as an Alumni, I can walk in the afternoon for $15 or ride for $25. Not sure if a Shands employee gets the same deal. No membership at Ironwood, but they generally post some good rates on golfnow.com or teeoff.com. My advice, drive a little south to Ocala, much better courses. Ocala National, Stone Creek, Candler Hills, & Juliette are my favorites. Good luck.

The UF course price for a membership is a pretty good deal.

I am currently a member at Haile and don't regret it one bit. It's a great course and is never overly crowded like ironwood and UF can be on the weekends.

Also ironwood can be in rough condition from time to time based on rain. It is practically half swamp.
