What to look for as to shaft recommendation
I've played several rounds with my boss and his son. I'd mentioned to my boss that I feel the stock shaft in his driver (his son's driver) is really holding him back. He's got the same Superquad 9.5* as I do. He has literally a Bubba Watson type swing, I've seen Bubba on Swingvision and it's darn close. Needless to say he murders the ball but often gets a hook tail and it goes a mile high. I'm not BSing when I'd put $$ on his swingspeed being easily over 115 and approaching 120.

I was thinking of suggesting something in the 70-75 gram range, mid/high bend and a stiffer tip. A few that came to mind were a 757X pull from a TP, a VS Proto 70X, Whiteboard 73X and a TP 75-X Rombax pull.

Any suggestions on what I should suggest? Should I recommend he get some launch #'s? Although it is plain as day to see the launch is too high with too much spin, spin being the major killer of his distance and especially accuracy.

Contacting a good club builder is a must if you are serious, and getting launch monitor numbers will help you make a decision.

The shafts you mention are all the type to reduce spin, it then just depends on how much you want to spend and which shaft feels best. I would also add to your list a BlueBoard and the Aldila NV, or the Matrix Altus if you feel flushed with cash.

If you really want to be like Bubba then go for a Grafalloy BiMatrx.

Thanks for the suggestions. As I said this not for me but for my Boss's son. He's about 30yrs. old, my age. I have the same driver with the Blueboard 63-S tipped 1/2 inch. I might let him hit that and see what it does for him. He definitely needs and X I would think though. He blows by my 270's with 290's all round. I just hate, can't stand by and not mention something, when I see a guy with that much speed and power using a shaft that's really holding him back.

Also I know if he want's it reshafted he'd most likely just give me club for the week and I'd give it back the next Sat. with a new shaft. I do my own and have 5 graphite installs under my belt. I've got the basic install down, problem is most of the shafts that I would pick are .335's into .350, which I have not done yet. I'd be looking to pick something up for him off the classifieds here, not new.

You could probably pick up a new NV 75X with a 350 tip for about 75dollars which is probably your cheapest option as the other shafts are likely to be more expensive even when they are second hand and the tip diameter would solve your problem.

My swing speed is fairly similar to your friends and I find the NV a great shaft. If I could go back I would have chosen the 75 over the 65 for my driver as it feels more consistent without losing much (if any) distance.

I like the 757X idea. The NV75 X is a good one too but not sure how easy it is to find a pullout in 0.350. Look into a GD Pershing 75 too as it's a fairly beefy shaft very much profiling like a 757. Look for Accra SC or SE's on Ebay as well...they are overlooked at times and can go cheap.

Shimming into a 0.350 isn't a big deal. You can use the Billybob style shim (all plastic) or brass. Just make sure you abrade and clean the brass before install. You can cut every other arm off too for alittle better adhesion.

I dont think you need to go to Whiteboard or Rombax unless you think he'll appreciate the subtleties.

I agree that a proper fitting is in order if he/you are serious, but...

Sorry to sound like a stuck record but a Grafalloy Blue is a great choice. Flattens out ballflight and works a treat. 757 is also a (more expensive) option for similar results.

I still think trial and error is the best method, but those two would be on my 'trial list'
