tip stiffness question

Sorry if this question is answered somewhere else, but i tried a search and nothing came up.

 

If a set of irons have a "stiff tip" does this just mean it is a higher kick point shaft that will keep the ballflight lower? Or is this a term that relates to the overall stiffness of the shaft? I have been trying to do some research on shafts, and recently hit a set of irons with project x 6.0 irons.

 

I currently have precision rlfle 6.0's, but these project x's felt much stiffer in the tip, but the ballflight was fine. The rep there told me they were very similar but the project x's will just feel stiffer due to a stiff tip.

 

Even though these irons felt a bit stiff (I carry a 6 iron 170-180, driver distance 265-270) will i be ok in these? Or is the rep full of bologna, and i need to go down a notch to 5.5's. If it is just a feel issue, then i have no problem with it, but i have trouble believing this is the case. :friends:

A stiff tip will mean a lower trajectory, and generally play stiffer. As far as the 6.0 to 5.5, if at all possible you should test a 5.5 to see if you like the feel. The 5.5 sounds like a slightly better fit, but the feel of the shaft TO YOU is important. I play a slightly softer shaft than what my swing speed would fit to, as I can play X100's, but the S300's feel better.
