Snake and Camel

The Rules

Hi Guys,

I wondered if I may get some help from all you golfers out there. Last night I had a round with a couple of friends at the mighty Girton GC in Cambridgeshire, England and we decided to play Snake and Camel. We know the basic rules of the game but need clarification on a couple of them. Here are the general rules if any one wants to play for some money -

Snake = 3 putts
Camel = going in a bunker

The snake and camel both start at a pound/dollar and every time someone performs the camel or snake the money goes up 10p or 10 cents for the guys over the pond. The person to be the last to perform the camel or snake owes the rest of the players the total amount. For example - player A goes in the bunker on 3, 5 8. Player B goes in the bunker on 9, 10 and 14. Player C goes in the bunker on 15, 16 and 18. Player C is obviously the last person to enter the bunker so he owes £1.90 to the rest of the players - the bunker was entered 9 times so the money goes up 90p. The same applies to whoever 3 putts last for snake. For the camel if a player goes in a green side bunker and gets up and down from that position - money is still added but the camel goes back to the person who had it before.

Here is where a couple of things happened and we weren't sure on the rules - if a player putts off the green does that count as a putt for snake. Also, what happens when a player goes in a fairway bunker - is it, if he gets up and down from that bunker then it goes back to the person before, or is it , if he gets up and down in three from a fairway bunker it goes back to the person before. or is it if he makes par it goes back to the person before.

If anyone knows the rules can you let me know so I can clarify an argument.

Fairway bunkers don't count for camels. And you only count putts from on the green (unless they intentionally putt it off the green)

 

The are also Ducks, same rules but for water hazrds.

 

We play the same thing at my club with a couple of extras, but instead of $$ we play for beer, everytime you get one of them thats a round up in the clubhouse. I win 14 beers with this a fortnight ago. i lost 5 last week. Great fun
