Replacing X-12's with another Callaway

x-16's or the newer ones?

I have been playing Callaway X-12's (4-LW) since their inception in 1998. They have the uniflex Memphis 10's with Tour Wrap midsize grips. Net/net, I'm tired of them, but like the Callaway line overall. I'm 51, in relatively good shape, play to about a 10-11 and live up in the North where the season is screeching to a halt. I'm concerned that I'm very used to the offset, and have my timing set up for them, but am tired of the clunkier look.

I notice SirShanksALot report on irons includes the x-16's. I guess I have my eye on all the later contenders (x-16, x-16 pro, x-18, x-18 pro and fusion). I also may be open to Ping's G2, G5 and I5 lines (played eye2's prior to X-12's). I know I want forgiveness as a top priority, but would like some newer technology.

I'm thinking of either asking my local 2nd Swing guys to borrow a 6 iron of each over the cool stormy (read: slow) weekend, then head to a local heated range stall. Or possibly buy one 6 iron of each from Callaway preowned (money back guarantee, etc) and hit them for 30 days. (Problem there is a commitment to buy via them cuz now I'd have a $200+ credit on the books).

Anyone out there go from X-12's to (fill in blank)? Any opinions on the aforementioned Callaway line? I almost grabbed a great value: a set of X-16's with rifle 6.0's on Ebay for $250ish, but felt 6.0 was gonna be too stiff. (A data point: My driver ss is 100 mph and Cleveland's launch monitor matched me up with a Launcher Comp 8.5 degree with Pro Vista 70 stiff. I hit it well). No idea what my 6 iron speed is, but 6 iron carry is 170ish.

Your just going to have to go and hit some different clubs to get a feel. For what it's worth I play the X-16 pro series, when the X-18's came out I tried them and could not tell any difference between the two so I stuck with the X-16's, I did hit the Ping I5's and they are worth a look IMHO.
