Dinner!

Recommended Posts

As a recovering foodaholic, I don't eat like this often anymore, but..... it's my middle sons Bday and we have a tradition in the Smiter house that the bday boy (or girl if it's the wife) gets to pick the dinner. Since my wife is of the "doesn't cook" variety this duty falls on me. Which is cool by me since I like to do it. Anyways on to the bday boys choice.

Making Angel Hair pasta with a garlic butter and white wine sauce. To top it I have marinated artichoke hearts with morel mushrooms (lucky find this morning!). Throw on some thinly sliced beef tenderloin, pan seared to mid rare or so. I'll then top it liberally with fresh grated Parmesan cheese with a pinch of 6 cheese blended Italian (basically works out to Alfredo sauce without the heavy cream). Since the child is a little strange we're also having jellied cranberry sauce on the side (not sure how this ties in but it's his bday, he can have what he wants)

Dessert is cream filled long johns (I'll abstain) with orange creamsicle ice cream (again??).

Happy bday buddy!!!!

What's on the menu at your place?

I used to be a cook in the US Army, 45 years go. I graduated second in my class in cook school, but I rarely cook anything besides hamburger, hot sausage, and other simple fare. Missus still works, so she does her own thing. She's no June Cleaver, cooking magnificent dinners while wearing pearls. I think "June" was just a fantasy in everyone's imagination, even back in the 1950's.

I like to cut a filet mignon into little pieces, sauté with onions, and serve with mashed potatoes, either fresh potatoes or Hungry Jack.

We almost never go to restaurants or fast food. I'd rather open up a can of Dinty Moore, or Chef Boy Ar Di.

Mighty good eating!

Lol! I love it! Our fine dining is very limited. While I can work up a decent dinner (see above, it was every bit as good as I thought it would be) our normal fare is similar to what you describe. Although I've never had the nerve to serve tenderloin with instant potatoes, lol lol!! Life on the move means we eat a lot of turkey wraps (melt cheese on a whole wheat tortilla and throw on some turkey -if time allows add a thin line of mustard!).

Like I said, I'm a recovering foodaholic, I feel almost high right now since my diet plan is to basically starve myself then eat as little as I can manage. When I do eat something I strive for filling but low in calories. Since I more resemble a gorilla than a normal human my work is cut out. So far though the results are paying off. In a mere 8-10 years I should be back to optimum weight!

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
