Ping Tour 65 Stiff Driver Shaft

I put this on my G400 instead of my regular Alta about a month ago.

 

It’s been great actually. Ball flight is noticeably lower and more penetrating than the Alta. I’m not saying I don’t like the Alta as I do, but this appears to be more consistent. My ball speed is about 145mph according to trackman at my local range so I guess my SS must be around 100, I play regular shafts in my irons and hybrids to good effect. It does appear, however, to be harder to draw than the Alta, usually a slight fade.

 

Anyway, not a long review, but so far so good. I bought a HZRDUS 6.0 at the same time and haven’t even bothered trying it yet as the Tour has been so good. I guess I should.

I just swapped out my Alta R for the Tour 65 S in my G400 Max last week and so far liking it a lot. My SS is a bit lower than yours, it feels lighter but a bit more stout than the Alta. I believe its .5 inch shorter as well. Also have regular iron, hybrid and fairway shafts.

My Alta was tipped to 44.5” total club length so the Tour is actually 3/4” longer.

The PING tour shaft is a great shaft. I'm not 100% sure on the current one, but the last generation PING tour shaft was made by UST Mamiya and was basically an elements chrome with a different paint job. Awesome option at a great price.

Somewhat random question but do you know how the Tour 65 S would compare to some of the Diamana shafts (whatever iteration of the same basic shaft like Blue/S+, White/D+, etc) that came in the Titleist drivers of the past? I played a few rounds with a GMax with the Alta a while back. Like you mention, nothing was wrong with it and I tend to prefer softer shafts (similar speed to you and play R in irons) but looking at how the ball flew it didn't seem like it was the best combo for me.

 

Realize it's a completely different club but the Diamana F Limited seems like it is quite soft? The profile could be different but the basic specs almost read like a blend of the red/blue Diamana shafts of the past? I guess just trying to get a rough sense of how much firmer the Tour 65 S is and if it may be too harsh.

I hit the Diamana F Ltd, at 13.5* at a pretty similar trajectory as the Alta at 10.5*, although I also get the same sort of distance from both. I’m getting more from the Tour and a much more beneficial ball flight, ie lower and longer. The Alta gave me good carry but no roll and could balloon in winds, as well as a tendency to draw too much. If you’re around the same SS as me I’d suggest you grab one on eBay to try, then if you don’t like it then sell it on for no loss.
