Iron headcovers - Yay or Nay

To all the 808 golfers here.. I know you folks have some sweet JDM irons. It would be a shame to cover them up but on the other hand more of a shame for them to get all "bus up" lol. Do you folks use covers or no?

well right now I have some pretty crap-tastic clubs, but when I get my new set this year I will most likely get iron head covers if can find some nice looking ones.

I was looking at a sweet set of Epons for sale here that only had "5 or 6" rounds on them but boy were they chattered! I've had my Scratch blades out for about 12+ rounds now and they look minty fresh... reason? HEAD COVERS! I use these ones called Coverupz. Attach with a velcro closure on neoprene and slip comfortably in your pocket while off. The best I've used by far.

If I were using a cheaper sets of irons, say $500-800 per set and didn't plan to resell them for any semblance of real money, then I wouldn't use covers. However, I play with some rare or expensive JDM or tour stuff and I am anal about keeping my equipment in great condition. I always use headcovers from driver through putter. I guess it is the same way people treat cars. Some people don't care if their cars get dented, scratched, or just fall apart. Others, like me, tend to keep our cars clean and looking almost new for years. If I drove a Pinto, I wouldn't give a sh@t if it got beat up. But I drive something quite a bit nicer, so it will remain garaged, washed, and polished. Still there are exceptions who will let a $2,500 set of irons or a $250,000 car get dented, dinged, or scratched up. To each their own I guess.

They are a pain in the arse, just my opinion. I take care of my stuff too but normal wear and tear is fine by me. It's not suppose to look new forever.

You guys will probably get on me for this one but I've always associated iron covers with higher handicap players. The joke with guys who use iron covers is that the sweetspot is still brand new. :drinks: Don't get me wrong, I'm a hack too but I just prefer not to use covers.

LOL..I always did the same association as well until I started playing with $1200 drivers and $2200 iron sets. If my $200-2000 putters needs a cover, it's a no brainer.

Anyways..there's a ton of old threads on this same topic. It gets the same answer every time. Some guys like it, some guys say it's a pain in the arse. Some guys say hacks only use it. Some guys say they're tools and meant to be chattered. Best answer...do whatever you want to do with YOUR clubs. If you want to cover them up go for it. If you're protecting your investment, go for it. If you don't give a rats arse about them because they are tools meant to look used, skip the covers. If you want to act like a PGA Pro (who happens to get his stuff free) skip them.
