Got the snap hooks... oh no!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

prologue : my coach(s) are both unavailable in the current timeframe needed.

Something has happened at a very unfortunate time and I need some advice or maybe just a tip or reminder that maybe is commonplace that I forgot. In 72 hours I am playing in a small mini-tournament with my family out of state, and on I have suddenly developed the absolute nastiest snap hooks with my driver.

After work over the past few days, I have gone out for a twilight 9, or an early morning 18 if I have a late day. In the last 3 days I have lost more balls to left waste areas than I ever have since I started golfing 13 years ago. It feels like maybe my wrists are turning over too early, contact on the face is centered, it's just the ball starts a bit left and then goes REAALLY left, and downward. Almost a topped pull hook.

Thankfully, irons, wedges and putter (oh my) are working just fine, but I can't rely on my fairway metals to go in place of my driver. I would normally schedule something right away, but Coach #1 is qualifying for the US Open, and Coach #2 is booked until July, nothing short notice.

Does anyone have a setup tip, or some other advice on something I can be looking out for? I can't understand what I am doing and I am in mild panic with this event only a couple days away.

Only on Memorial Day will you get a freebie.  If you want to ensure a non-hook do this:

Determine, or imagine,  where a ball would ultimately end up if it did hook and proceed to set up straight for that spot as that is your new target.  From the top, basically stay where you are, no lateral shift although there will a minimal involuntary amount,  and open the lead hip- almost like a spin move that- and the ball will not go left.  It will be a  big fade instead.  If you need to guarantee a non-hook that is a way how.  So you are aiming right at the trouble.

I swung out from underneath myself, from the lower part of my body.   Byron Nelson

Trust me I know, I feel almost silly asking for swing tips without going to my coaches but its just too short notice to get some help in person.

Closed face drill

Setup normally -just before you start your backswing loosen your grip so that the clubface faces 10-20 degrees left of your target . Then tighten your grip to normal pressure.
The goal behind the drill is hit the ball straight. In order to do so you will have no choice but to avoid rolling your forearms

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
