NEW Martin Hidden Fundamental Video - Wow!

Recommended Posts

An interesting examination of one continuous motion by Martin Ayers.  This is #5 in a series, but you may need to review #2 for establishing his base to apex context.     Very interesting insights, a choice seems clear, using a side-to-side swing as many think and do, or one continuous motion.

Oh, for heaven’s sake. The steering wheel thing has been around forever.

Any links to those, are they still around?   This is really advanced swing insight by Martin.   Two opposing directions within one continuous motion.

One of the problems with golf instruction is the segmentation of things that cannot be segmented.  The underlying connections between thing is lost.  In fact, they are not really connections being lost as much as things are treated as separate which are actually the same thing.

The hidden fundamental of the swing is actually rotation of the upper body around a horizontal axis located in the upper torso, aka hip thrust, which I contend is the same thing a left/right tilt within the frontal plane.

When I say hidden, I mean described 60 years ago in The Search for the Perfect Swing by Cochran and his colleagues and lying hidden ever since from people who have difficultly reading and comprehending books.

(As an aside, Cochran and his colleagues also pointed out that the starting direction of a shot is largely the function of the direction the face is pointing, knowledge of which the golf teaching community as a whole as far as I can tell remained blissfully ignorant until…well, does it know it yet?)

Interesting move with the wheel, seems to produce tilt.  Hold a plate (no need for a steering wheel) straight in front of you with your arms extended.  Turn the plate counter clockwise (or “left” for those of you…) as much as you can without moving your head, and you left shoulder will go down and your right hip move to the right.  Vice versa.  Your torso will rotate around a horizontal axis in the upper torso.

A steep shoulder plane at the top and a movement of the hips towards the target in the downswing are aspects of this rotation back and forth, which can be likened to a one cycle asymmetric oscillation of a pendulum.

This rotation is frequently mistaken for a translation, in which the entire upper body would move uniformly to the left and right.  Well, actually in a lot of swings (and as I understand it Dr. Kwon’s step drill) it is a translation, but not the good ones.

N.B.  It is not to be inferred that the turning of the hands holding a plate or wheel causes the rotation of the upper body.  You certainly can turn your hands without the rotation occurring.  Your brain knows you can turn the wheel more by using your body, so enlists the body to do so in a way you already know how to perform.

I like a couple of the early videos on the channel. Some of the other ones remind me of Lee Comeaux and are hard to understand.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
