hybrid distance?

difference from 19 to 16

just got done golfing in southeastern michigan (jan. 12) and really had my first chance with my 19* Ping G5/nvs combo. love it. just wondering how much farther the 16* would go? Hit the 19 210 off of the fairway and 220 or so off of the tee. I am not a big hitter but it was 53 degrees out. let me know what you guys think the bare minimum pick up in distance would be. Is 15 yards to much to hope for???? and if so how could I squeeze more out of it?? not working out either please. :birthday:

I also play Ping hybrids. You are right on at about 15 yards per club. You are definitely going to get more yardage with graphite shafts vs. the Ping steel shafts (app. 10 yards). You will also hit the ball much higher with the graphite. The 16* should give you about 15 more yards, but is not quite as forgiving as the 19*. I personally think when you start getting in the 16* range, you would be better off with a 4 or 5 wood, especially in the distance category. I think you would get more value out a 22* (replacing a 4-iron) rather than a 16*. Hope this helps.

I thank you for your response. I too would think a 4 wood would be a better choice, but yesterday I was hitting my 19* G5 only 10 short of my ss-04 17 * 4 Wood. I normally do not go for par 5 in two unless I am 230 or closer, due to the spraying of the 3 and 4 wood. What I really want out of the 16* G5 is about 235 off of the tee and alot more accuracy than a 3 or 4 wood. This would be perfect. so maybe>>>>>

19* G5---fairway 210 tee 220

16* G5---fairway 225 tee 235

do you guys think that this would be a safe assumption?????????

i was on a quest to find a new 15* 3-wood and as part of the quest i looked at a 14* taylormade rescue dual tp. i found it to be a tad shorter than the 3 wood, but with a equal trajectory. however it was easier to hit, due to a shorter shaft. a fairway wood is going to have a larger club head, but its easier to find the sweet spot with a shorter shaft.

as for your yardage distance, you'll be around 15 yards. i had a little over a 10 yard gap between a 18* and 20* utility iron. the few degrees in loft with the longer shaft will give you the yardage.

The other trick if you want to stretch it and garantee yourself some yardage, is to order the 16 in a +1/2" in order to spread it a bit from the 19.

The only drawback might be a slight loss of accuracy, but these things start out pretty short anyway.

I currently play with a 16 in the TP Dual and a 22 TP Dual and I am going to add 1/2 just to get it to center on the clubface. The face tape has me all over the toe on the 16...
