Another Golf Galaxy ball fitting

How can these results be correct?

Last weekend I had a ball fitting at Golf Galaxy in Winston Salem,NC The results don't seem to go along with conventional wisdom so I'm letting you guys take a look to see if anyone can explain how the test results could possibly be true.

The baseline test ball was a Bridgestone e6+

Here are my specs:Ball speed 129.5,launch angle 12.1,back spin 4,131,club Callaway Big Bertha 460,11*

Top 6 premium balls :
1-Callaway Tour IX - longest
2-Bridgestone B330
3-Nike One Black
4-Srixon Trispeed
5-Callaway Tour I
6-Callaway HX Hot

Top 3 value balls
1-Topflite D2 Distance
2-Slazenger/RD Speed Distance
3-Slazenger/Raw Distance Xtreme

The Tour IX was longer than the D2.It seems like the lower compression balls would be better for me but the test says a top pro ball such as the IX is longest for me even at my SS but that just does not make sense. Am I missing something?

You should probably look for another driver because your launch angle is a little low and your back spin a bit high. This is probably why the harder balls worked better - a bit less spin. Regardless, the iX is a very hot ball. My golf buddies and I rarely agree on balls, but we have tested almost every premium ball on the market this year and we all find the Callaway iX to be the longest. I still prefer the i though because it spins a bit more. The greens are pretty hard here this year...

that ball fitting system is awful now...last year it told me that the ZUR-S was the best ball for me, I lost 10-15 yards off the tee.

 

It defaults to putting the D2 in everyone's ball fitting.

Most of the top premium balls have a higher compression as a general rule. If you look at your best fit ball from the lower price brands you will see that the Top Flite D2 performed best. That ball is an extremely low compression golf ball. It is a common misconception that low swing speeds should use lower compression golf balls.

I think it _used_ to be that you couldn't have both distance, and high short game spin.

 

I've been only very recently using the Tour IX and am pretty blown away by it. It seems to go like snot, but the soft skin (almost gummy texture) is great for wedges. I'm not too sure if I like putting the ball yet. But I'm not surprised at all it gave you best distance. (I am surprised none of the Taylormade LDP ball ranked up there for distance).
