CG-1s in Black Pearl about ready

My dealer called and asked me if I wanted a set of CG-1s in Black Pearl. Evidently they are about the release them. Should help with the dinged up look the polished ones experienced. My response was not unless they are made out of 8620 steel (TA-1s, TA-3s). If they are CMM I will pass (as did VJ in his set). Sadly for me they are still the CMM material which I do not like the feel of. There are still only 2 sets of CG-1s in gunmetal and both of those are at VJs house.

why dont you like the feel of theCMM??i have the cg10 black pearl and love the feel of it.is it to do with durability??cos my wedge wears soo quick.be interested to know bcos id like to try the cg1's in black pearl

First the CG-1s appearance wise have too big a hosel (due to early breakage). But most importantly the "soft" feel that Cleveland describes for the CMM feels mushy to me. There isn't a nice sharp/soft feel like a traditional forging or even a good set of 8620 carbon steel like the TA-1s. I sat one day and hit side by side CG-1s and my old TA-1s both in chrome finish and there was no comparison for me in feel. I also think the CG-10 wedges seem to dull the feel for me where the 900 series felt great.

I'm excited to see these come out and will even consider buying them. Hopefully a big response by the public to the black finish will encourage more OEM's to include different finishes on their irons

ya im very excited bout these.sandy i know u might think that the feeling off the cg10's is 'dull' but i just think its very soft and i love that feeling, its not one bit harsh and gives great feel and control especially on the delicate little ones

Glad to hear that. I love the look of Vijay's irons, and I know most people feel the same. Even though they won't be true gunmetal, I'm sure they'll be a hit.

I'm sure that Cleveland is hoping they will be a hit as well. The TA-1s and TA-3s were a definite dud. They were very hard feeling compared to the chrome verisons. Also a lot of people found if they weren't VJ or his ilk very clearly their poor ball striking was evident for the whole world to see where it was much more subtle on a chrome finished iron :cheesy:

 

By the time VJ had success with them and people started asking again Cleveland had long dumped them keeping only the gunmetal wedges.
