Got a ? on Black Gold MP60s...a little help.

I recently picked up a set of MP60s with the BG X shaft. I really liked the way they played except for a couple things. I really needed to make sure I made a full swing to get them to perform which is ok. They did tend to hit higher than I wanted in the mid irons. The bigger issue is the weight...these measure out at D5 throughout the whole set. I instantly started having wrist problems with these. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I pulled out my 962's with DGS300 and played 9 holes and some range balls...no wrist pain. My conclusion is that the MP60s with the BG X are swinging too heavy for me or the X shaft is causing me to over swing to get them to perform. Not sure why these are D5 (bought on ebay) but could they have weights installed to get them that high?

I was going to just sell them and get something new. However, I like the MP60s and would like to reshaft them once and see if I get something more suitable. I wonder about the PX or KB Tours. I play +1/2" and would like to see my irons back at the D2 SW. Any suggestions? I've read much of this forum on the shafts and I'm looking for some advice on a good swap.

The BG is a decending weight shaft, so yes, I would bet that somebody did the swingweights. TT says not to do this, and the shafts should play light in the pw, and heavy in the long irons.

Now, I have found, if you soft step the irons 2 times (not once) they come out equal swing weight for some reason. I don't know why, TT didn't know, and everybody on this board didn't know when I asked.

Put the irons in normal caused the 4 iron to weigh a D3, and the PW to weigh a D1 and TT said this was normal, and for me not to put any plugs in or lead tape.

Appreciate the info. I knew they were descending weights. The long irons feel really heavy. The wedges seem fine. I think I'll have them pulled and see what can be done. While I've got them apart I may consider different shafts but if I can get the weight right I may stick with the BG. Thanks again.

I had the same problem with the BG's in stiff and went to reg flex and soft stepped x2 in a set of A-10's. Now they are sweet. I'm thinking you could probably sell those shafts w/o much problem. I got PX 5.0 rifles in my MP-60's and ever since I pulled the shafts, weighed the heads to be 6-8 gr's apart and spined the PX's they too are sweet now. Heck, I did the same thing with a set of 78 Wilson tour blades, 1-pw. Made the club heads 6-8 gr's apart, spined the DG 300 R shafts and hard stepped x1, and they are sweet.

My point is that once you get the correct s/u any shaft will feel good. Granted the feeling between the DG's, PX's and BG's is a little different, but that isn't to infer that one is inferior to the other, just a little different feeling. Haven't tried the KB's yet; very curious about them and they have had great reviews. The guy that developed the PX shafts left and went to FST and developed the KB shafts. So I'd imagine they are like PX's. Good luck with whatever do decide on.

My hc is 9.5, driver chs is 100-104 mph and I'm a swinger as opposed to a hitter.

I think I'm learning that you have to find a shaft/head combo that works with your swing. I don't spend enough time analyzing it to know where I stand. I do know that swing weight means more to me than it used to. I also realize that for me, I need a confidence in my clubs to put my swing on the club. I think the MP60 are going on ebay at this time. If they don't sell I will pull the shafts and look for a different set up. Thanks guys for the replies.

I don't think you will have a hard time selling those guys. If you like to tweak with clubs I'd suggest pulling the shafts, making sure the head are 6-8 grams of each other, get a set of shafts you like, spine them and put them in the MP-60's, (thats what I did with my MP-60's and I can really feel and see the difference). Good luch with whatever you decide on.
