Any Sky Caddie Users?

Any feedback on the Sky Caddie? Do they work or is it just as easy to find a sprinkler head? I also heard there were annual fees. I would love to hear thoughts from anybody with on-course experience with this device. Thank you

I haven't used the Sky Caddie, but I've played at courses that had GPS on the golf cart and they were pretty accurate and very usefull. Now if I could just stop buying new golf clubs and pay $300 on one of these.

If you do a search you'll find a couple of conversations about the SkyCaddie. You could probably get a great review from those. Just search for SkyCaddie and you'll find it. Haven't heard a single bad thing and the subscriptions are based on different levels, but you can always go and map your course without having to pay.

Just got one for my birthday. I have only played one round with it on a course that had only been mapped for the center of the greens so it's kind of early to judge. It took me a few holes to get out of the habit of marching off the steps from the yardage markers but I quickly got used to just glancing down at the SC when I got to my ball. It was very helpful on those inside 80 yard shots where I used to just guess and on one shot where I was way off the fairway and judging yardage from the markers would have been very difficult.

On my next round I plan to map the course myself so I can have front\middle\back yardages in the future. I also put in a request to have them professionally map my home course so I can have all of the layup and carry yardages as well as better info around the greens. Don't know how long it will take for them to get around to it though.

I subscribed to the plan that gives me access to all of the mapped courses in my state for $30. The SC holds 10 of their mapped courses plus 5 that you record yourself. If you subscribe once, you can load up the unit with 15 courses and never pay the subscription fee again if you want. I thought the $30 was reasonable. If you don't subscribe, you can only load 5 courses that you have recorded yourself. You can only record three points per hole on self recorded courses (e.g. front\middle\back of the green).

Overall, I think it will be a pretty useful gadget. It seemed like it would be less hassle than a laser rangefinder but those have certain advantages so I hope I don't regret my choice of the SC over the rangefinder in 6 months.
