Ball in wooded area between two holes

Here's my question:

 

Ball hit off tee lands in a wooded area between two holes. It is not marked as a hazard and it is not out of bounds. The ball is found but the woods are too dense to be able to play a shot. The ball is way further than two club lengths to be able to take relief as an unplayable lie (with penalty). If you extend the line from the hole to the ball, relief along that line and no nearer the hole would put me behind the trees and in another fairway.

 

Do I need to replay the shot from the tee? What is the penalty?

You proceed under the unplayable lie rule. It's a one stroke penalty, no matter what you do. You can move it two club lengths, you can take the drop that you mentioned in the other fairway, or you can replay from the tee.

The penalty is one stroke regardless of which option you take. Since the two-club length option will not work, as long as you are not heading OB, you can go back as far as you like. If that takes you into another fairway, so be it. Your other option is to play the ball from the original location: the tee box.

You say the the ball in in the woods way further than two club lengths, so this would not have worked, but had you been in a place 4 club lengths from a playable area but very far away from the teeing ground and in a position where the line back was not an option, two drops under Rule 28c, 2 club lengths not nearer the hole, could have been taken.

Each drop would be a penalty stroke, but it could be a better (and maybe safer) option than going back to the teeing ground.
