uPro Course Storage On MicroSD Card

Has anyone gotten a straight answer from Callaway about whether 3rd party microSD cards can be used to increase course storage up to the limit of the card? Even better, has anyone just went ahead and used a larger capacity card with no negative impact?

 

Right now, the only answer I get from Callaway is that they "sell 1 gig microSD cards to increase course storage so you can take additional courses with you." That wasn't a direct answer to my question of "Can a larger than 1 gig microSD card be used so I don't have to swap cards to take full advantage of the 150 Pro Mode course package?" I'm getting the feeling Callaway prefers selling marked up microSDs, which they sell for at least 5 times more than a 1 gig microSD should cost.

 

I was hoping uPro's operate like other tech gadgets that allow additional storage up to the size of the 3rd party storage card. I don't think it's asking much to be able to keep all 150 courses in the combined memory of uPro and microSD, but clearly 1 gig isn't enough.

good question. I imagine they do accept other brands cards. The charging/synching cable is standard and the original owner of the Upro is UPlay a smaller company, I think, so they probably didn't develop their own proprietary cards.

I've asked the question via phone and email. Both times it seemed like they were ducking directly answering even when I phrased it in a "yes/no" way.

 

Bottomline is if there's no compatibility or warranty reason not to use a larger capacity card, then naturally it makes more sense to use as large a card as reasonable. Right now 16g & 32g are reasonably priced and would seem to give enough storage for every course I can expect to have a shot at playing for quite some time.

 

I don't need all 20k+ courses that other units use as a sell feature because it would take almost 55 years to play them all at 1 per day for the rest of my life, not including travel, expenses, or whether you can actually play them (public vs private). I just want to be able to choose from any of the courses in places that I visit most frequently (Orlando, Tampa, Columbus-OH, Cincinnati-OH, Las Vegas, NY, CT, MA, MD, VA, NJ, NH). I can see 150 being reasonable, but I just want the convenience of taking a day or two to load them all once and be done with it and not having the hassle of multiple storage cards.

 

Hope someone checks in who's used a 3rd party card.

Here is a little secret, you can use larger size cards. There is no reason why you can't everything runs on the SD card. You just need to have the executables which you can attain from uPro if need be when you reformat the SD card. They will give you a link on where to download it.

Hi there. I've purchased an 8GB microSD card, but am having trouble formatting it properly. I have the latest MicroSDupdate.exe from Callaway (over 25 MB download) which I would imagine has the correct executables and file structures. Any help on the correct procedure would be appreciated!

If I am not mistaken I remember asking this question once when I was thinking about ordering a uPro. Tech support told me that you could not use a card bigger than 1gig, it had something to do with the formatting. They told me that cards bigger than 1 gig had a special formatting that was non-compatible with uPro, and I was also told that it would degrade the speed of the device even if you could use a card that was bigger than 1 gig. If I were you I would call and talk to someone in Tech Support for the accurate scoop....

Thanks - after an afternoon of fiddling and almost bricking my uPro, I'm convinced that an 8GB micro SDHC card won't work. Since it also appears read-writes are at USB 1.1 speeds, I'll bet it's a safe assumption that you are correct and that cards over 1 GB most likely won't work. The uPro card is FAT32 formatted, however, which gives a bit of hope that a 2 or 4 GB non-SDHC micro card will work. On the positive side, the reformatting with the latest Callaway-provided download solved my MacOS 10.5.7 device non-recognition problem even though WinXP still doesn't work.

How do you fix the Mac 10.5.7 problem? They were supposedly trying to fix that issue, but I haven't heard anything about it yet... whats the scoop?

my guess is its a firmware issue with the newer larger SD/HC cards

 

surprising it won't take up to 2 GB though, thats a pretty standard card size now a days
