17* hybrid or a 15* 3 wood

no need to carry both, right?
i have a 17* ping rapture v2 and a diablo 15* 3 wood..

the more i think about it the more i realize there is no need to carry both clubs..

the 17* is more versatile and to be honest only loses about 7-12 yrds in distance..

so if you carried your 3 Wood 245 or your 17* hybrid 230ish

which makes the most sense? carrying the 17* and a extra wedge?

or the 15* and 17*?

I just took my hybrids out of play. I had a 3, 4 and 5 and put my 4 iron back in play with a new R9 3 wood and 5 wood. My iron play is getting good and I am spending more time on the fairway and want the woods now over the hybrids. There is some overlap on my 5 wood and my 4 iron but I am using my 4 iron for my 220 yard shots off the tee and my 5 wood is better for me off the fairway. I very seldom put the 4 iron in play on the fairway because I do not get the consistancy I need. My 3 wood is good out to about 260 and my driver is about 285 plus so I have the gaps now that work for me. I struggle a little with shots between 230-250 and end up backing off of my 3 wood when I am on the tee but on the fairway I end up laying up.

I know this question, I had to make this decision about 4 months ago. I took a BB Titanium 3W out of my bag( I also have a 17 degree Mizuno CLK hybrid), and replaced the fairway wood with a 906F4 strong 3W(13.5 degree) so that my lofts were not too close. As for carrying an extra wedge, that is up to you, I personnaly do not like too many options with the scoring irons.

I have a 15* 3 wood and a 16* hybrid. My 3wd is good for my needs 250-265yds and my hybrid is my 230-240yd club. I am not good at hitting woods off the deck so I use the hybrid for that plus the courses I play and being above average in length off the tee I am rarely in a position for needing a club for a 250-260yd approach shot to a par 5. New England courses do not normally play more then 6800yds so most par 5's are driver/#1 or #3 hybrid or I am laying up if I did not hit the driver well.

I think course condition matters. But I see your point.

I'm currently gaming a 16* 3-wood and an 18* 2H. I have come to think of the 3-w as the club I use for distance out of rough; given my home course conditions (4 par-5s, and one short par-4 where a FW is a good bet off the tee), that means five uses per round max. I use the 2H out of the fairway in similar conditions, so get four plays potentially with it PLUS maybe 3 other longer par-4s where I might be short off the tee and need the distance to make up for it.

But your post gives me reason to think this over some more. I would like to add in a 3H that I have in the garage, and had been thinking about dropping the LW. But maybe I need to drop the 3W.

Wow ... all this strategy is making me want to go buy a golf club, just to relieve the stress.
