Skycaddie shows off new features at Hazeltine

Recommended Posts

Zoom in Zoom out and Full hole view coming
I went to the PGA merchandise tent at Hazeltine this week to buy some hats and shirts for some of my customers and ran into the Skygolf booth. The two Reps. were there showing off some of the features that will be released in the up coming months. They had an SG 5 with the PGA logo burned in the screen and had the Hazeltine course down loaded with full hole view and green contours shown. I have to admit, it was pretty cool.... The picture of the hole was great and all you had to do to zoom in or out was to push the mouse button up or down and see a closer look at all the hazards, real easy. The green contour I thought was the best feature, because it showed how detailed it could be and how if the green has a lot of false fronts or slopes, it will show it. Think about how many times you were playing and if you knew that if you didn't get it back to the top shelf, it would roll back, way cool. They couldn't tell me when it will be ready, but he did say they were beta testing over a 1000 courses and if it passes, those tested would be first with rest to come over a period of time. I think these new features will keep SkyGolf at the top of my list and can't wait to use them.

Thanks for the update... that's exciting news. I look forward to upgrading my SG5.

I've grown accustom to using an SG5 during every round. Before buying it however I looked at Upro the 1st to offered full aerial views of each hole through the imagery you're talking about. I really liked it but before buying I phoned them and asked a series of questions, only to be disappointed in their answers. I concluded think they would survive the market and went with SG5. Since, Upro appears to have been sold to Callaway in hopes of staying in the game. We’ll see.

Sounds pretty cool. Since buying a Sonocaddie v300, I am totally sold on GPS over laser for my game. I really felt that, costs aside, the Skycaddie only needed to add a few things like the features mentioned to be the complete package.

If there hole views are well done, and accurate, it will be tough for other units to trump.

I still love my v300, but maybe next year an SG5 will be on my 'must try' list.

Tell your buddy that when the smoke clears, SkyGolf will still be on top and others will fall. I asked him why this is taking so long and he said they don't want to release something, only to have to tweak it again and again. Think about all the patches that Microsoft has had to do. Makes sense. The only problem is it seems that ever time you open a golf magazine, it has a new hand held promoting how good it is. Just adding confusion to the market. I ask him about Sonocaddie and with out going onto details, he doesn't think they are doing well. He made it sound like, only the strong will survive and all others will fade away over the next 1-2 years. I'm still a believer and can't wait for the new features.
I am hoping for scoring analysis features also. I am getting more use to keeping my score with my 2.5 and would like to record GIR, Fairways Hit, etc. Seems like it would be easy enough to transfer to pc when syncing.
Amen to that. I've actually stopped using the scoring feature since there's no way to download and analyze.
