future careers in golf (UK)

Recommended Posts

would like some advice please
i would just like some advice on what careers there are in the golf industry in the UK ?!

im currently doing accountancy at college and i hate it, and it is totally not for me, but im just sticking with it to get the A levels that i need!

i was hoping to do the PGA coaching course that birminghan uni offer, and while i believe i could get down to a 6 if i stopped the silly shots and started getting lessons again by next year (ive got the length), i just dont think i could get down to 4 and be able to maintain it, especially as handicap cards can only be handed in in competition play at my course

i was just wondering if there is anything i could study at university that would be useful for staying in the golf industry, i.e. marketing, and then trying to get a job at titleist/taylormade etc

or whether there are any coaching courses at other universitys that dont have such a low handicap requirement, or even if i could work at my local club with the golf pro there

any help will be greatly appreciated as i have been put in a little bit of a predicament with my future

I don't see why you can't try make it as a pro first though if you love golf.

dont get me wrong i would love to make it as a pro
im happy with where i am at currently, considering i havent had a lesson in 8 years, and i virtually started the game up again last september, and to get to 11.5 without lessons i am quite happy with, and ive just started getting that baby draw im after and had my first hole in one today actually!! so i feel im making progress, get some lessons in over the winter and practice my a** off, and maybe i will get lucky one day :)

but as for your advice, thank you
ill have a look at all the brands, and send a few e-mails out asking for qualifications that i might need and hopefully they will get back to me with a positive response!

I have the perfect answer for you

Universit of Lincoln

Golf Science & Development

There are no handicap restrictions on being accepted.

you learnt he skills to be able to become a good golf coach and all of the skills can be transpired to other sports but i feel its giving me the best headstart to ebcome a teaching pro when i leave.

Definately look into it on ucas website or what ever its called now.

Im now in my 2nd year and with work experiences throughout im hoping to go to achushnet just after christmas so look into it.

UCLAN (University of Central Lancashire) and their associate college Myerscough run degree level courses in Golf Management, Golf Coaching and Golf Performance, Im on golf coaching and do recommend it, if you want any advice or need info on who to contact PM me, if you want to get in to golf this is THE place in England to do it imo, great golf teams, get practise facilities etc etc.

J-Daniels do you play for Lincolns team? Uclan gave you guys a 4 - 2 humping recently :-P
