My new old bag

Hi, I'm Lee. I live in North Carolina, near Charlotte. I've been trolling for a few days, but thought i should introduce myself. I played golf for about 10 years, but stopped playing for about 6 years. I hung on to my old clubs, but they just sat in the garage and gathered dust. Recently my family came to visit and my brother-in-law decided he wanted to play. Well, I booked a tee for us at the local muni and away we went. I played terribly, I shot a 124, but had a great time and was instantly hooked again. Then, much to my suprise, my very sweet, but very un-athletic wife decided she wanted to try golf. Well, it turns out she's a natural and she's hooked now too. Back in the day I could play most rounds to somewhere between 80 and 85, that's my eventual goal again, and I can already see my scores dropping. With a couple of hand-me-down upgrades from my stepdad, my silly old bag isn't quite as bad anymore either.

I have to rely on my old Ram irons, but my stepdad had a few clubs laying around that he wasn't using so my new 2010 bag got a few nice hand-me-down upgrades. He passed along a new driver, 3 wood and 5 wood, replacing a 10 year old Taylor Made driver and 15 year old Knight Golf 3 & 5 woods (Sam's Club clubs ), so a very cool upgrade for me. Hopefully soon my irons will be improving as well. My local club smith has agreed to teach me how to repair clubs, my first project is going to be tuning and refinishing my old Ram FXs. I'm hoping to do a photo step by step in the club repair section on the facelifts of a few of the clubs, I thought you guys might find it interesting. Anywho...here's the stix pix.

When I got the driver from my stepdad, it had an oversize grip. I broke my left hand years ago and the oversize felt good and seemed to help with my problem of gripping too tight in my swing so I regripped all my clubs with oversize grips to see if it helps my scores. The Lambkins are borderline too big, but I'm going to reserve judgement for a few more rounds.

I also walk my rounds, so I use a Walmart pullcart. I'm hoping eventually to replace it with something nicer, but for now it's doing the job.








These are my chix stix pix. My mom upgraded to the new Adams ladies stuff so she gave my wife her "old" clubs to learn with...Adams A3OS Driver, 3W, & 5W that have been played with 3 or 4 times, along with 2 year old Nike Sligshots 5-SW including a gap wedge. She's also using a Taylor Made M4s putter. Stocks shafts across the board, with Winn grips.

Thanks, I know my bag is old and silly compared to most on here, but money being what it is, once I can score with them what I was doing before then I'll upgrade. I'm excited about getting to work with the local smith, I get to meet with him tomorrow and see what all he's willing to teach me. He told me a while back he'd teach me anything about it I'd like to learn, we'll see. I'm hoping to use my Rams as guinea pigs to learn how to custom fit and refinsh irons. The eventual outcome to be a set of custom irons built for myself as my upgrade.

I really like the new putter grip too. I've played five rounds with it now and I think it's finally coming around. My wife and I played Monday and I could see my stroke getting better as I concentrated on what I was doing. We played the full round without keeping score though, it really takes the pressure off and let's you concentrate on your shots.
