Edmond Area golfers

River Oaks?

Anyone played River Oaks in Edmond? I have had a chance to play this course a couple times but both times plans fell through and I missed out. Just wondering if anyone could fill me in on what I missed. Is anyone a member? Rates? Worth it?

I'm no member, but I've played it. pretty nice, and getting better each year. decently long, challenging, but also rewarding to play. can't comment on the rest of your questions.

Oak Tree but it is very pricey. Same story with Gaillardia and OKC Golf and CC. Coming down a notch is Winter Creek and Quail Creek. I have heard that River Oaks is nice as well. As far as public courses Coffee Creek is a nice track and so are Lake Hefner and Lincoln Park. If you head down towards Norman then Belmar is a links style private CC and Jimmie Austin in Norman is the home of the University of Oklahoma and it is a fantastic course and public. The Trails in Norman is a nice private course right on the river in west Norman. Last but not least Karsten Creek is just outside of Stillwater and is the home of OSU's golf team and it is supposed to be fantastic, but I haven't coughed up the $300 to play it. We have a lot of great courses in central Oklahoma and if you come up to Tulsa there are even more.

Yeah, grew up in Edmond, and there is lots of good golf in OKC. Depends on what you want to spend. Hunt out a solid club. Heres a list of my favs, created by cost. NOTE: all of these courses are usually in good shape and the two higher end are just SWEET!

I have a friend whose dad is a member at Oak Tree and I have been promised a round on the Championship Course this fall. I better stock up on balls. People who aren't from around here are usually surprised at how many good courses there are. I am still looking to find a way on to Southern Hills some day. I also hear that OKC Golf and CC is a fantastic course and they are supposed to have great teaching pros as well.

I actually watered the greens one summer at River Oaks (1998) and at that time the course was just short of becoming a goat farm. I am pretty sure that ownership has changed hands and significant renovations have been done since then. I grew up playing golf at Kickingbird and I am now a member at Quail Creek. If you move to the west side of Edmond, I definitely recommend looking at Quail Creek for membership. The public courses around OKC are way above average for public course standards, especially the Lincoln and Hefner courses.
