My Swing

Recommended Posts

Please tell me what im doing wrong!
I went to the range today and took three videos i could actually use to get checked out. Since its winter my driving and all around gameplay has been alittle off but there was a good 2-3 weeks toward the end of last season where i was hitting the ball well. Now im not. Ive taken 5 videos 2 are in iSwing on my iphone and i dont know how to upload them. But here are three. Both swing 1 and 2 are alittle slower i didnt give it my all. Swing 1 was my worst shot. swing 2 not so bad. and swing 3 was my straightest and farthest at about 250yards.

Swing 1

Swing 2

Swing 3

Swing 3 it looks like im coming way past parallel on the backswing... thats the first thing i noticed.

Thank you for all input in advance!

Ok, I looked at all three videos and id like to start off by saying your crazy. It must be 20 degrees outside where you are, but anyways on to your swing. You are in fact going way past parralel. My instructor and I hit a lot of balls with our putter covers under our right arm and i think that it would benifit your swing a great amount. It will also force the club to come down on a better plane on the downswing. When i watch your down swing it doesnt drop in the slot. And by that if you watch a pro golf swing they take the club straight back and on there downswing there right arm drops in to the slot. As if the right elbow gets sucked in to the ribcage. You should try to hit some balls with your putter cover tucked in to your right arm. I hope this helps. I know for a fact it will remove coming past parrallel Oh and the trick is to not let the putter cover fall out

AHH yess is that almost the same as taking the towel from one arm to the other and holding it? I really wanted to do that but for some reason i didnt think of it while i was there. ive practiced dropping my arm in and keeping my elbow in plenty of times but not with the head cover or towel. So ill check that out next time. Thank you!

ps... it was 36 out haha but i was dressed and the range is heated.

I might be frustrated and jealous that I don't have a place like that where I can go right now and hit balls, but...

It seems to me that you start your downswing with your upper body and your lower body follows. Your lower body does a nice job of catching up, but I think you might be losing power and control if you are swinging primarily with your upper body.

Start with posture and ballance.

Weight seems to be on your heels which will lead to "c shape" posture. (slightly hunched) get the weight ballanced more on the balls of your feet.

After that its into your backs shape seems quite hunched which makes it impossible to maintain your spine angle.
Start with short irons 9 or 8.

There are many other parts to be improved but if the foundation is not right you are wasting your time moving into further parts.

Awesome great responses...

Is there anything I can do to practice starting my swing with my lower body? I've been trying very hard to do that because I know that's a major issue.

Te balance thing I didn't even notice but definitey see what your talking about.

Sorry about the poor typing, my iPhone isn't registering some keystrokes for so
e reason.

It could lead to upper back pain.

The problem is that your posture shape mutes the lower body.

There are 3 basic shapes to look for.

C shape which is hunched this controls the swing with the upper body and shoulders mainly so even if your lower half rotates correctly there will be a huge power drain.

S shape is the opposite this is an over athletic position that leads to the legs becoming to active. Most players who set up this way tend to get lower back pain and have less control.

Then straight or neutral posture this is what you want. This way lets your body rotate around your spine perfectly. It is also the easyest of the 3 shapes to maintain through impact as once again you just rotate through.

I realy would start with this. Work on the address position then work on rotating round it properly.

As you correct your back position you will see how your legs become more active and how they can properly produce power.

Cheers, Lew

your upper body and lower body are not "connected"

Do you feel like your timing is a little wild? well because it is...you are timing your arms, hands, hips, feet simultaneously and that's why your inconsistency is

a nice way to thing of it is to:

-Bring your arms to top of back swing (where left forearm gets close to right shoulder/chest)
-turn hips to start downswing and keep your arm close to your chest/ (postion when it was at the top of backswing in relation to your chest
-wait until your hips clear (45 degrees or more open)
-let your arms follow after

This is staying connected
you will feel slower but more powerful

watch this Goosen video over and over, to get an idea of how he clears his hips then allows his arms just do it's thing

Dubv23,
Another thought--- I watched your three videos again and noticed that in all swings your left foot was planted FIRMLY on the ground without even what looked like a good weight transfer. Admittedly it was hard to tell from the camera angle and dark picture, but on full driver swings there is often a somewhat visible very slight movement of the left heel SLIGHTLY off the ground. In those cases it helps to start the downswing by first planting the left heel back down on the ground so that the hips can clear and turn. To feel that, try doing a slow backswing with the heel slighty coming off the ground. You will find that it is impossible to clear the hips and turn them with the heel still off the ground. I am not recommending that you radically alter anything but rather try that as a way to feel what is necessary to get the lower body active in the start down.

Hope it helps.

Hey guys i went to the range today and worked on alittle bit there. I want to start by saying thank you!! ive seen drastic improvements in everyshot with every club it was a great day.

I worked on my posture at home in front of the mirror to get a good idea of how i look and it should feel and tok that to the range today and worked my way through my bag starting with my PW. Definitely hit and felt better. With proper posture you can definitely feel the rotation alot better and it feels almost automatic.

I got to my driver and after a few bad shot i had a bunch that were straight and far. i hit the net at the back which is about 250 i believe about 4 times. I had a few bad shots that pushed right and barely any that were my horrible slice. It was amazing. I worked with the towel under my arm and then i worked without it and it was amazing.

REEVEs: i didnt see your post uintill now so it is hard to comment on my foot but ill pay attention to that next time and work on seeing how that feels. hopefully i can get a new video posted with an improved swing!
