Tulsa Recommendations

Going out to Tulsa for a wedding in May and figured I would try to get a round or two in.

 

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My favoriate public course is Emerald Falls. Way out east in Broken Arrow. Great condition, interesting design, never too crowded. Its pretty expensive (for Tulsa) and has a pretty difficult stretch holes from #5 through #10, then #17 and #18 are pretty hard, too. Its fun if your play the proper tees, though. The tips are ridiculously hard, with two par fours over 480.

Forest Ridge is a tulsa favorite and is often in great condition (for a public course), but for some reason I never enjoy my rounds there as much as I think I should. Relatively tight course, with lots of trees.

Battle Creek is good course, if you can deal with houses on every hole. That is the only real down-side in my opinion.

La Fortune is a solid course (county-owned and operated), with decent value and forgiving enough design to have fun if you don't have your best game. It can be long rounds on the weekends, though.

Several more to choose from, I'm sure others have their favorites, but I'd throw those out to most visitors. Enjoy your weekend in Town.

+1 for Forest Ridge and Emerald Falls for public courses. typically in really good condition with nice putting surfaces. Forest Ridge may be in better shape however.

I agree with the above recommendations. Forest Ridge is quite tough but I enjoy it every time I play. The only down side is the goose crap on a couple of the fairways. Forest Ridge has GPS in the carts, which is nice. Emerald Falls is a tough, fun and interesting track but it is young and seems to still be coming into its own. Both are about $60, which includes carts but look on golfnow.com for deals. The LaFortune championship course is nice. Woodbine at Mohawk park is another good choice and is a casual (jeans and tee shirt) municipal course with cheap rates. White Hawk in Bixby is also nice and is only about 25 minutes south of downtown. Ask around and maybe you will find a friend who is a member of Cedar Ridge, The Golf Club of Oklahoma or even (gasp) Southern Hills. You could get lucky and play a multi-major championship host course. Have fun in Oklahoma, May is a nice month if you can avoid the thunderstorms and the occasional tornado. I would be more than happy to meet you at Forest Ridge or Emerald Falls for a round since they are right by my house and are always fun to play.

my friend works at the RL Jones airport in Jenks and we play South Lakes from time to time. it's very short, but fun. some challenging holes, but mostly easy and without too much danger. inexpensive but quaint and nice.
