what is the real face angle?

I tried out a friend's R7 which felt real solid but I was surprised to find that the face look slightly closed to square(at best), the reason this surprised me was the fact that Taylormade stats it as 1* open. Has anyone else noticed the same thing in these drivers? If it makes any difference the driver was a 9.5* loft with the 75g shaft.

I have noticed that too. I was looking at one today and it was an 8.5 and it seems like it sits closed. The best looking club that actually sits open is the Mactec NVG2 Tour. It sits dead open. I am kinda disappointed about the new TP.

There's always a tolerance between the stated standard and actual angle of any club manufactured. That stated, the TP series is closely monitored, I'd be surprised if it's more than .5° off TM's standard.

the weight port in the heel makes every R7 425 look closed, if it wasn't as protruding as it is it would sit open perfectly. mine are 2* open, but if you sit them on a flat surface it appears closed.

As Hom said, the design of the sole in the MWT drivers makes it such that when you set them down on the ground they tend to rock themselves shut. Lift the driver just off the ground and let it kind of find its own spot you will see that they are in fact square to open and that the weighting wants them to sit this way when you keep it from shutting itself. IMO it should've involved more foresight by the designers at tmag to design the sole of these drivers so that they do not close down from the weight ports. Thankfully, I hover the club as a part of my setup so it doesnt really matter but i know he times I tried to set it on the ground its shut itself down.
