Project X vs. DG S300 stiffness

I have DG S300 in my irons now and wanted to put in the Project X shafts, although I have only hit the Project X 6.0 stiffness. They felt great but I have not gotten a chance to try any other stiffness. I have a driver swing speed of about 100 mph and feel like the S300 are a pretty good stiffness for my irons. Does anyone have similar specs and actually end up with the Project X 6.5 in their irons??

Thanks.

Project X are a strange beast. They actually play much stiffer than advertised. I have a driver swing speed of around 105 mph and use s300 as well. However, I would not play above a 5.0 in project X. Ebay is full of clubs for sale with project X 6.0. They are just too stiff. Forget what the website says and ask around or, better still, try the 5.0 if you can. I think you will struggle with anything above 5.0.

project x are actully stiffer than normal dynamic gold. even the black golds are stiffer tha a regular dynamic gold. a s300 would translate to about a 5.7 on the royal precision scale.

That's correct. Try Black Gold S flex soft stepped one time if you are currently using DGS300, Black Gold is more consistent weight and bend point wise than PX and will have a firmer feel than DG like PX does.

I couldnt agree with this more. I have long played s300's and had a set of 5.5 px in a set of mizunos and i lost atleast a whole club of distance. I would play no stiffer than 5.0's if i were you.

  • 2 weeks later...

I recently had MP60's re-shafted with Project-X. I went out to Hot Stix Golf in Scottsdale & after a fitting session, I found that the original DGS300's ranged from 4.7 tp 6.4 throughout my set on their frequency scale. According to the printout, my clubs were re-shafted with Project X in a 6.1 frequency. Anyhow, then end result is that I find the Project X to not only be more consistent and better feeling, but I have gained about 1/2 club in distance throughout the set.
