G5 or Nike Sq Driver.

Need a new driver and thinking about the Ping G5 and the Nike Sq. I have yet to hit either one of them but plan on doing that soon. What are the pro's and con's of each. Im sure once i hit them i can go from there. Also anyone that has either one of the drivers your opinions would be great. Plan on trading in my R580xd which i hit awful.

Also another question looking for a new set of irons to was thinking about the X-16's but since they are kinda outdated would it be a smarter move to just save up and get a current set of clubs????. Decisions, decisions i hate them haha. Thank god i already know which putter i want that decision will be easy.

What i mean by hitting it awful is cant hit the thing straight if i tried to and yes i know most of it is my swing most likely but just dont feel confident with the 580Xd driver as i thought i would everything is going right with it no matter what i do. But yes maybe your right if im not hitting it good maybe i wouldnt hit the SQ ir the G5 good either but i guess all i can do is hit them and find out.

I understand the lack of confidence, I use to buy a driver ever time I felt it had betrayed me. One day, I finally had a lesson that taught me my main flaw, which was getting ahead of the ball. Now I simply go back to a set of core drills to help me get back on track.

With that said, get a lesson, or hit both and see what your results are. Any other answer you get besides that will be nothing but bias.

I am gonna demo both before i make a decision maybe others also but right now its between them to.

And also someone mentioned get a few lessons to work on things i also plan on doing that in the near future. I have a good friend that is a assistant club pro at a local country club and he has told me anytime i want just give him a call and he will help me out a little he has already told me a few things to work on and its helping a little bit.

Well i can take the SQ,the X460 and the R7 460 off the list. I hit them all tonight and didnt hit them well at all. The SQ i hooked like crazy i mean a nasty hook and the X460 and R7 460 i hit better than the SQ but everything went right with them and just didnt feel comfortable with either one so it looks like my search continue's or i just may keep my 580Xd now.

I think I stand on good authority in saying that if you couldn't hit any of those drivers, chances are, its the indian not the arrow.

If you're swinging the club well you will notice some advantages and disatvantages of each club you test. Some will have a draw bias, some fade. Some will look more comfortable to you at address, some less. Some will go longer based on all those factors coupled with your particular swing. However, a particular club won't cause a hook or a slice...its your swing mechanics. Don't expect a new driver to compensate for a flawed swing. The cure is some lessons. As a matter of fact, I find it odd that people who are in a slump go to test new clubs because chances are when you get your swing back on track the new club that compensated for your flaw will no longer work best with your improved mechanics.

This isn't to say you shouldn't get a new driver. But go test them out again on a day when your swing is a little better, little smoother, little better tempo. Go on a day when you feel you can hit any club straight and then compare the results. I'm sure you'll find one to your liking. But don't eliminate any until then.

Arkstorm yea i understand what you mean and realize that but i also hit couple different irons while i was trying out some drivers and i hit them straight as a arrow. So why did i hit the irons so good and not the drivers thats what has me puzzled i didnt do nothing to change my swing from the irons to the drivers its strange really but i will give them another shot again and maybe i will see different results.

I realize you expect to hit your driver as straight as an iron, but the reality is that irons are easier to hit straight due in part to more loft and a shorter shaft. This combination allows you to overcome swing flaws that become more prevelant when you hit a driver. Also, the driver with its larger head is more difficult to square at impact so a hitch in your approach will become more pronounced with the driver. But I do recommend giving it another shot after you figure out what it is about your swing that causes the hooks and slices.

I was always a loyal Titleist driver player until I picked up a G5 by chance - really good driver - straight, long, penetrating flight. I have a 10.5 degree with a Grafalloy Blue which keeps the flight down. Have tried the SQ and the Tour version with the deeper face is the better of the two options - still prefer the G5.

Thanks for all the opinion's guys but after some tips and a few changes that have seemed to help im gonna keep my r580XD driver last couple of rounds out i have hit the ball great with the driver and have added a little distance so it looks like its gonna stay in the bag for now. Now i gotta decide on a set of irons since its time for new irons and i think i have settled with a set of new Callaway Big bertha's but that could change.
