I play to about a 13 handicap, but that is usually with well over 30 putts per round. I previously played a 983K 8.5 with a GD YS-6 S, but I wanted a bigger clubhead for more forgiveness so I bought the Bridgestone 460 8.5 and decided to reshaft after not liking the stock NV at all. I had a GD Tour AD W-70 and decided to give it a go. After playing a few rounds, I noticed that I had a very high balooning ball flight and a big loss in distance. I decided to go to a local Golfsmith and for the first time tried their launch monitor. Some numbers:

 

Swing Speed = 95-98

Launch Angle = 18-22

Spin Rate = 3500-3800 (had one that was 5100)

Offline to the left about 3-4 degrees

Carry = 220 average

Total Distance = 240 average

 

I was consistently hitting the top portion of the clubface but in the center. I thought the shaft might have something to do with this, but the salesman thought it was more my swing than the shaft. I was hitting the Titleist a lot further than I am now, but again I needed some forgiveness.

 

My question is: will the proper shaft help me hit more consistently on the sweet spot and get these numbers to where they should be? Or did my swing deteriorate this much with the new driver?

High launch + high spin = descending blow with the driver.

 

Sorry to say this sounds like a swing issue that equipment changes won't fix.

 

I'd take a lesson and see what a PGA pro has to say.

A 8.5* J33R 460 will not give 18-22* launch with any shaft reasonably or unreasonably fit to your swing. A positive angle of attack of 10-14* is not something that can be attributed to nor cured by equipment alone.

 

There'll be alot of theories to explain why you are getting such high launch....I'd normally suggest (if you were a client of mine) to see a pro and have a video breakdown of the swing.
