Laser Link Red Hot

Recommended Posts

I have realized the most practical purchase in my future should be a range finder over any club or flat stick! Knowing is much better then an educated guess. So the choice is down to a Bushnell V2 or the laser link. I play with friends who have both and the yardages are almost the same. The issue is that the course I play the most has the Laser Link reflectors while other courses I play locally do not. The Red Hot is supposed to be able to shoot trees. bunkers etc. and still shoot flags but without the accuracy of the reflectors. Having the ability to do both would be cool in that I like the ease of the Laser Link (quick shot or red hot) over the V2. Any experiences out there?

When the courses have the Laser link reflectors, it just makes it that much easier to grab the flag with your Bushnell. I've hit reflector equipped flags with my old 400 series Bushnell from 700 yards.

I think the Bushnell makes more sense because you're visually zeroing in on the target, but I thank Laser link for their prisms, they rock.

Get the Bushnell over the Laser Link. You will be able to spot other things (bunkers, hazards, front of green, etc) with the Bushnell that you will not be able to hit with the Laser Link.

While I don't have a particular bias toward Laser Link over Bushnell, the Laser Link Red Hot can target the other targets that you listed. There are earlier models from Laser Link that could not do that, but the one referenced in this thread can target non-prism targets.

ps. What the Laser Link does do is to give you some kind of feedback when you have acquired a prism target. In my experience it is so darn easy to acquire a prism target, that this function is not needed.

Speaking of the Laser Link reflectors I noticed that the tour stop this week had reflectors on the top of the flagsticks at The Greenbrier. No matter which rangefinder you are using those reflectors help out and enhance the performance. All golf courses should have these reflectors. More and more people are depending on rangefinders now and courses should offer them as an amenity to their players!

Keep it short and simple!

My Leupold locks on to the reflector augmented flagsticks and beeps to indicate that lock, sometimes from distances where I can barely make out the flag in the finder. I'd love to see them on more courses.

I do find the build quality of the Leupold GX 3 & 4 to be better than the Bushnell V2 series though it comes at a co$t.

I've used the Red Hot for a couple of rounds - the big advantage is supposed to be that you don't need to bring the device all the way up to your eye to aim...but I found that on a course that didn't have reflectors on the pin, you basically have to bring the Red Hot up to your eye anyway...

One feature I liked is that the Red Hot will vibrate when it thinks it has locked on to the target.

If you frequently play on courses that don't have reflectors, I would say that a Leupold or Bushnell is probably a better way to go...

The reason the laser link needs a reflector is its laser beam is not powerful enough to catch the target and bounce back on its own very reliable so the reflector helps reflect it back. Either the Bushnell or Leupold are much more sophistcated and dont need the help but will benefit from the reflector from long distance. Laser Link makes no sense to me when it only works with reflectors and you cant target any other object.

[/quote] Yes, I recently picked up the Red Hot and it does exactly that. Hit yardage from flags, trees, bunkers and yardage is spot on. I can finally put my GPS up for sale. The Red Hot is fast to acquire yardage and you can change the alert to vibrate or sound. Get your target in the circle and sync red dot in circle. Easy as pie. Golf Galaxy had them at a great price a month ago.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
