Dang Mizuno!!

Are the MP58s really as good as they look and feel?

I play MP62s currently.

Thought about getting a 4 & 5 iron in the 52s for some forgiveness.

Then I looked at the 53s and 63s. I like the sole grind on them. Kind of reminds me of the old 962 and more recently the J36.

Then by random chance I saw and hit some 58s indoors and, my goodness, they felt so good.

Specs sugges that should be more forgiving than the 62s (more offset, especially in the long irons where I need it most).

My only hesitation was the short irons. I know Mizuno traditionally has made the PW a little large for most people's taste but the MP58 PW has a sole width that would make Eli Callaway proud.

I don't know when I might have the chance to hit these off grass so I'm hoping someone can comment on the playability of these especially off tight lies.

I played them for about half of last season with KBS shafts and liked them alot. Was actually hitting them a little longer than my GI clubs with stronger lofts. They set up perfect to me. They do feel slightly different compared to other Mizuno's I have hit. I demoed these and the 68s (which I was actually hitting better) outside on a demo day last spring and chose them over the 68 for forgiveness reasons. Now I am coming full circle and thinking about picking up a set of 68s to mess with.

I'm playing 60s right now, getting 62s next week and have hit all current models for Mizuno. The 58s are definately more forgiving and launch a little higher than the 62s. If you wanted to get a few 58s for your long irons and keep the current 62 setup, that may be a nice way to go. Good luck!

So I went in for a fitting today and discovered the following-

I hit the 58 and 63 6 irons almost identically. The numbers on the Trackman were ever so slightly better with the 63s but for all intents and purposes pretty much the same.

I could not hit the 63 4 iron consistently. I hit the 58 and the 53 4 irons, again, almost indentically according to Trackman.

Since I already have some 62s it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to drop money on a 53/63 combo. I'd sooner just get a 52 4 and 5 iron to go with my 62s as I previously stated.

And as much as I like the look and feel of the 58s I'm not sure I'm gaining a whole lot over a potential 52/62 combo.

Any thoughs on a 52/62 combo vs. a 53/63 combo or 58 4-PW?

I hit the MP53 and MP58 6 irons side by side for 1 week on grass at the range and during play. Same shaft (PX 5.5). Not really much difference in performance. MP53 maybe slightly (and i mean minimally) more forgiving. I chose the 53 for the added forgiveness. Either one will be great.
