What's the story with Cameron stock lengths?

Just curious more than anything else.

 

All Cameron retail products come in 35" and most in 34" too. Just a handful are available in 33". Is there any reason for that? I guess it's easier for a shop to stock them if there are fewer sizes, but when you're paying $300+ for a putter, you'll certainly want it to be the right length. I guess it's easier to shorten and regrip a putter than make it longer, but you may encounter swingweight issues, etc when you do that, not to mention the cost of another (expensive) Scotty grip. It's a little suprising to me that they don't make them in a greater range of lengths even if they make the alternative lengths available only by special order.

Scotty can be had in various configurations depending upon model. Golf Shops stock the most popular lengths. Scottys are set to an "ideal" swing weight in different lengths.

 

33/350, 34/340, 35/330

 

So depending upon what you want to do, it will have various effects. Most Cameron grips can be blown off without need of cutting.

dfung, I definitely see where you're coming from, but you've got to give credit where it is due. Cameron was one of, if not the first to offer varying weights in his retail putters. You can get a Ping, Odyssey, TM, and most other putter in 33-35" stock lenghts, but the headweights are all going to be the same. Bettinardi now makes 2 different headweights for the Mizuno line, but I'm pretty sure the Hogan line and his original retail line all had the uni-weight heads as well.

Most of those 33" 350g head goes to Asian Market, especially Japan. The Japanese especially pays premium money for a Scotty cameron putters. Look at golfvox.com or the seaside golf. They have one of the best looking tour putters out there and they get sold out pretty quickly. Also Scotty should start making 33" 350g head in retail and in tour for the LEFTIES!!!!!!!

Quick question:

 

I want a Red X but in length and weight that is not standard....I like the 350 feel, but I want a 35" length. Can this be achieved? Buy 33/350 and reshaft/add a butt to the grip or buy a 35/330 and add weight (weld/lead tape)??

I think the Studio will only do a 1 inch extension. SO you would need to buy a 34/340 g model. You could also do it yourself by buying a 35/330 and then unscrewing the sole and gluing the appropriate weights.
