HELP! 1st Year of 5L - Loss of distance

Recommended Posts

Also losing shots right - club stuck behind me?
Hi all - 1st year of 5L swing. When I do it correctly seems to work great. Still don't know how to fix on the fly though. I've lost distance through the bag though, mostly with irons. Never was a long hitter anyway, especially with irons. Also missing irons right.

My guess is my take away gets too steep sometimes. Then when I do get the take away right I sometimes get stuck and block to the right, even with short irons. On those occasions, I think that maybe I don't rotate enough, or don't rotate hard enough. When I try to turn harder, the club gets/feels very loose at the top - is this normal / ok?

I've always been fairly accurate off the tee, but with this swing I know why I am accurate, although a little shorter, off the tee and have much more confidence. Always had trouble with irons, and usually had a problem with shanks early every year. This swing method has rid me of the shanks, for which I am very grateful.

Anyway, any tips for fixing on the fly during the round? Are the problems I am having common when first starting this swing method? Do I need to be more patient and just keep working it, or based on the issues I am having am I doing something wrong? I know hard to judge without seeing swing, but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry, don't quite follow, but maybe the fly smells something familiar?

However missing to your right is absolutely on the track. My guess is, that you have slightly too long hip turn back-wards, and then shoot the lower body to max speed too early. The downswing is sort of too far round your back. Try to shorten the bs by not turning so much from your hips. Another possible flaw is inaccurate hand action. But I'd put my money on the hip-thing.

I think, when you get that sequence right, you'll gain the yardage back and beyond.

Anyway, if you have been doing something else with your club, it will take some time to get there.
