True...if you don't already make 10 million a year from sponsors before you even set foot on the course. Or a million for just showing up to play a tournament.

The one thing I thought was pretty lousy considering the year Lorena Ochoa had with six wins. She finished at about 2.5million for the year. Not taking anything away from Granada but she won one tournament for the year, will finish in the top 10 in money and with half of what Lorena earned. ;)

Your absolutely correct that is lousy!

I think the PGA needs to break away from this "Tour" idea, where each tournament is its own entity. The PGA should set a guideline to standardize the prizes for each tournament, so that all the tournaments count the same as far as ranking... well except for the majors... They should develop it more like a Pro League. It really stinks to see some historic tournaments loosing sponsorship because they are poorly attended.

Who is going to pay for this "Pro League?"

Winner earned $1,000,000; 2nd $100,000; 3rd $20,500......with a set-up like this there's some real incentive

to win and not just to show up to make the cut and collect a fat paycheck for taking 40th place!

If all tournaments were set up this way, there would be about 25 players on tour. Being on tour is an expensive proposition without income.

Start ANY kind of business and it's an "expensive proposition without an income". Unfortunately that's the way it is. There are plenty of people who find a way to do it every day - many succeed, many don't, but that's what it's all about isn't it?

40th place on the 2006 money list earned $1,729,319.....150th earned $495,314 + whatever they earn on the side! I don't think there's another "individual" sport that pays those kind of numbers when players are that far down the list....

1. Many, if not most, of those players aren't just starting. So it isn't starting a business without an income, it is having a career without an income. I don't think that they need protection - just pointing out that the tour will be much smaller if you are only paying the top 10 finishers.

2. You are absolutely correct - in fact, I can't think of another individual sport that pays a living wage - I'm not sure bowling is a sport. So?

'06 ATP tennis player's ranking by earnings: 40th on the $ list = $510K......150th place =$140K... less than

1/3 of what PGA Tour players earn....

Fair enough, but you still haven't answered the question: So?

I'll also point out that 140k is a considerable sum, and a fair bit more than nothing.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
