Southern Utah golf?

I have lived in the Salt Lake area for the past eight years and have never gone south to the St. George area to play golf. I know there are some great courses there.

Does anyone here make trips there to play?

Hey buddy, I live in SLC area, too. I went down to St. George a bunch of times last winter. I played Green River, all 27 at Sunbrook, Coral Canyon, and Sky Mountain. I'd recommend Sunbrook and Sky Mountain. Sky is in Hurricane, which is really beautiful. It was also relatively cheap. I even made it down to Mesquite too, which is only another 30 minutes or so. I played Wolf Creek, which was super sweet, but super expensive too. You should make the drive down this winter, it's a pretty easy trip.

Another course to check out in the St. George area would be Entrada at Snow Canyon. Sweet track, with a lava field of all things on part of the back nine!

coral canyon is tops in my book for st george area, Green springs and Sunbrook next.

Im from Roy, Its too bad South gate was destroyed with all of the flooding in the beginng of the year. Go try St. George Golf Club.

since your down there go play in mesquite,nv(Oasis gc, Casablanca,Palms GC)

I agree.

Entrada is OK, but they have had to redo a bunch of the greens thanks to Johnny Miller not being able to putt anymore. Plus, it has been purchased by Troon and they like to think it is a lot bigger of a deal to play there now than it really is.

The best course, top to bottom is Sunbrook, no questions. All 27 holes are good.

Coral is decent, but overpriced in the winter. It is pretty fun, but as you play it, it is clear it is the design of a first-timer. Plus, they don't keep it in shape like they used to...greens aren't that great.

Sky mountain has by far the best views, but it is very very short and can be in decent to poor shape depending on the time of year.

Green Springs was in the best shape I have ever seen it this summer...I would mix that in.

St. George golf club has some OK holes, but just isn't ever in very good shape...at least not up to Utah public golf standards.

Casa Blanca is my favorite mesquite course. Oasis is good, but has some mickey mouse stuff going on as does Wolf Creek (WAAAAAAAY overpriced...wonder why they went bankrupt!) Falconridge or crest or whatever it is feels like Eaglewood...a lot of blind shots.

If it were me going down for a weekend, and I wasn't a member at Bloomington (which I am), I would see how many tee times I could get at Sunbrook and mix in Sky Mountain just for the views and Coral or Green Springs to break up the monotony a little bit.

Regardless, it is better than sitting through an inversion all winter, regardless of where you play!

although i did play Wolf Creek in summer at $88, i still thought it was one of the most unique courses you'll ever play. unbelievable elevation changes on almost every hole- you wont forget this place. not sure what price is, but absolutely worth playing there if youre not afraid of heights. (some of the tee boxes from the blues are interesting!) my entire group and other friends who were just there all loved it.

I liked wolf creek alot - interesting holes and very challenging. Sun Brook was nice but they had some flooding issues when I was there last. Entrada is okay, a shot makers course - target golf. Coral Canyon is a nice layout that I really enjoyed. Oasis is also a decent layout. Falcon Ridge - interesting course - the back nine I personally hated, but it could also be partly due to the 6 hr round of 16 holes only - we could not finish 18 holes teeing off at 11:00. Service was a joke - we had no cart for the first 1.5 holes. There is another course in Mesquite but I can't remember the name - it was terrible.

I just wanted to say how great this site is and thank everyone for their honest opinions. I have been "looking" at this site for a little while and I think it is great.

I live in Minneapolis and after waking up to a temp of 15 and a couple of inches of snow I decided to call my friend in Utah for a spontaneous trip. (Which finally brings me to the point of this being the Utah Thread)

We are heading down to St. George tonight to play this weekend. I have been to Mesquite and enjoy the golf but not the prices! Blindly I booked tee times because we didn't have a lot of time. We are playing Sky Mountain, SunBrook, and St. George. Sounds like we got lucky and should have decent courses, again thanks to everyone else who chimed in. I'll report when I get back.

If anyone else is going to be playing down there let me know, I will probably be the one wearing shorts since the upper 50's will feel like 80 to me!

i have been to southern utah and mesquite before to play golf and will be heading down there again in just a month. on my list for courses to play are entrada, coral canyon, and wolf creek. another course that looks good is sunbrook, but i am slightly confused on their layout. which of the three nines, the pointe, woodbridge, and blackrock, combine to make their premier 18-hole layout? thanx for the help and would appreciate advise on other good courses in the area.

I'll be playing there in a few months. Another course to look at is The Hideout in Monticello. I have not played, only driven by, but looks like a hidden gem - out in the middle of nowhere.
