Inside Approach Swing Trainer

Does anyone use this?

I was in the Dome yesterday and found myself really swinging outside in, putting some ugliness on the ball. I watched a guy using the Inside Approach trainer and it seemed like it might have some merit.

Has anyone here used it?

I put a shoebox on the ground behind the ball, just outside where the club "should" go. It works, and it's cheaper. Hit that shoebox a few times with a full swing, and you get some impressive feedback!

i used it for about a week when my fade went to a POWER fade...then i got the hooks!

I got one to use in the back yard when i hit balls just to make sure nothing got two weird(outside in) with my swing since I cant see the ball flight. I also think my swing is a little steep and it seems like it would help shallow it out.

Made my own out of PVC pipe (cost for materials < $5). Gotta say, the concept is sound, and it does help groove an inside swing.

 

Don't use it much anymore, but it is available if I ever need it again.

My instructor had me use one for about 6 weeks during practice while we were making some swing changes last off season. I liked the feedback I got. I didn't like it at first, but it worked.

I have used one and it was ok, but you can easily make something out of stuff at the house which is a lot cheaper.

Great idea....do you perhaps have a pic of your PVC model?

 

I could just go buy one but I recently dropped a lot of money on equipment and don't have the energy to explain it to my wife! :rolleyes:

That's exactly what I do. The shoebox won't hurt anything if you hit it and mentally, it's like you're trying to avoid hitting a wall. The downside is, if you hit the shoebox 10 times or more, well, you need another shoebox. :-)

I got one after the pro I get lessons from pointed out that every time I came in for a lesson I had the same slightly too steep downswing.

 

He suggested the Inside Approach would assist in practice and it is great. Am hitting the ball more solidly and my practice sessions have more purpose.

 

I recommend buying one if you can get one.

I've done the 3 ball drill...hitting the one in the middle. That helps. I've considered the Inside Approach after reading good reviews, but it seems it would fly down the range if you made contact (quite a scene at a crowded range).

 

Anyone experience this?

Hey, my first post! After seeing one in a couple of pro's offices, watching people use them at the range and seeing the infomercial, I decided to pick one up. Went to the range the next day and fell in love completely. Once you realize that if you hit the pad (which I never did...ahem... :) ) it won't do any damage, you can really get used to it. I didn't tee anything up under it, opting to work on long irons and fairway metals. I started roasting my three and five woods and the three and four irons were coming in nicely.

 

It is something you need to use regularly though. Went to the course today and kept topping everything so more work is needed (isn't it always?), but with this, I know things will only get better.

 

It is not a fix-all though. While it does train you to hit from the inside, it doesn't dictate or help with face alignment. You can still slice using this aid if you come in with an open face, but once you see yourself slicing and *not* hitting the pad, you know what to work on.

 

I highly recommend it and won't give mine up. I also have to agree with the earlier poster that said you might as well go buy it for $40. The deluxe edition (I believe it's called) has a few DVDs showing hints and tips along with all the things you can do with it. Whatever you choose to do, good luck!

 

 

Now if only I can learn how to hit *down* on the ball...... :)

You really dont have to buy a inside approach, you probably have what you need in the garage. The idea is that with the inside approace, as you say, is not to swing over the top. All you have to do is to get a 2x4 piece of wood about 1 1/2 feet long, set it down on your line, set your ball about maybe 2- 2 1/2 inches inside the 2/4 at about mid point in the 2x4, using a iron to start out, hit balls. You will see immediatly that a over the top swing will hit the 2x4 first, then you will develope a inside to impact swing path. This is a great aid to use and the better you get you will be able to move the ball even closer to the 2x4 and not hit it.

I was at Target today and I came across the Inside Approach for $25. It's baged under the Golf Digest Products. I think they do this for some of GD's top ranked accesory products. Comes with a DVD and free subscription to GD.

Get 4 of 90* PVC pipe corners and a T section and a piece of copper pipe insulator foam (can get this at Home Depot) and some piping. Make the back legs about 1.5 feet long. Put the two 90* ers on each 1.5 foot piece. Join the two pieces with about 6-8 in of pipe with the T section in the middle. Add another piece of the pipe to the top of the T section about 6-8 in and add the other 90* section to point away from the legs. Add another 6-8 in piece of pipe and another 90* end. Stick in the foam insulator and you're ready to go. Later, Bubba ;)
