Can someone explain "first in, last out" in regards to final round pairings.

In particular this week, why is Fleetwood in the final group when tied with McIlroy, after they shot they same score in the third round?

I don't know much beyond what you write in your headline. Accordingly, I assume Fleetwood holed out on 18 before Rory, and thus he was "first in" at that score. My guess is the tour does it this way, as normally posting the score "first" would mean you started further back, and thus had a better (most recent) round. Of course, there are situations like the above or where a bunch of people started the day at the same scores across multiple groups, but they probably just need a consistent rule vs. deciding ad-hoc (even though this may be better for TV).

Is there any reason you think Rory should be in the final group? Other than he's a bigger name?

There is another thread On this. Fleetwood teed off first at the beginning of the round and therefore even though they tied and he putted out after Rory, his score is the “first” score recorded for their tee time.

If he and Rory were in different groups, the first person to finish would have been placed in the last group Sunday.
