SM7 55.09 K grind

Currently using WedgeWorks 54.10 and 58.10 V grinds. I would rate performance as decent in most situations, and not exceptional for any type of shot. For green side chipping and bunker shots, I feel the V grind’s bounce is too close to the leading edge. As a result, I will be testing various SM7 models soon and looking for any insight into the idea of bending a 60.14 K grind to a 55.09 K grind, or a 58.14 K grind to 55.11 K grind. I would use it predominantly for full shots and green side sand shots. WedgeWorks K grind would have too much bounce for me. Thanks for any information.

Lots in this thread in just two posts.

1. The SM7 D is a decent suggestion because the V grind is basically just an M grind for double the price, and the D is a high-bounce M. I'm not sure why he'd go to the D if he's looking to reduce bounce, though. D makes bounce go up, not down.

2. Buy a 200 series 58* on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/TITLEIST-VOKEY-200-SERIES-58-08-DEGREE-LOB-WEDGE-STEEL-0660749-OIL-CAN-8620/382851211506?hash=item5923b5e0f2:g:~9QAAOSw8fpckcKU

Titleist loves to repackage their old, old wedges as tour sauce wedges. A 258-08 is a K grind with 8 degrees of bounce, exactly what you want.

3. Never bend a club more than 4*. It'll snap pretty quickly. Most club builders won't do it.

4. There is no such thing as a wedge whose bounce is "too close" to the leading edge. Bounce is the angle between the leading edge and the sole. You can't move "where" the bounce is. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this, but I assume you mean the bounce is too much. Bounce isn't in a "place" - its a measurement. Its like saying the square footage of my house is too close to the front door.

My Opinions:

5. No idea what wedge Stan Utley used, but by eyeballing it I'd say its either a K or an S and its definitely a 200 series. My best guess is a 258-08 but could very easily be something custom. I know these days he recommends a Ping Glide SS wedge for his system.

6. The best low bounce, wide-sole wedge is the Cobra Wide Low and its not close in my opinion.

Callaway Mavrik 4 (18*) - AW (46*) Project X 5.5

Some people refer to "bounce" as a skid plate, so yes, you can shorten that skid plate to make it closer to the leading edge of the club. Compare the Cleveland RTX4 one dot vs two dot. Bounce angle is the same, but the lowest point of the sole is closer to the leading edge on the one dot vs the two dot.
