Share your pressure mat experiences!

I've spent no more than 4 minutes total on Monte's pressure mat at his last two London clinics and I'm completely sold. I'm fascinated by just how much a pressure mat (and of course a teacher who knows how to interpret the data!) can help your game. Interested to hear other people's experiences!

Here's mine...

I hate my pelvis. It has a mind of its own. Some people can be told to move their pelvis in a certain way and just do it. Mine gives me the finger and does what it wants. I turned up at Monte's 2018 London clinic aware of his shaft over shaft drill where you get a shaft held across your chest over a shaft laid inside your trail foot at the top of the swing. However, the mat told me that I favoured my trail foot 70-30 at address when I genuinely thought I was 50-50. Couple that with a trail foot that rolled significantly in the backswing and what I thought was me going shaft over shaft resulted in my pelvis swaying off the ball. Monte put me in a proper address position and it felt at like 90-10 left. He also wanted me to keep some pressure in the left toes more at the top. I spent most of the next year working on the new setup and stopping my ankle from rolling during the backswing. My strike improved but I did notice that my ball flight got lower with my longer clubs.

At last week's London clinic, it quickly became clear that the idiot student left to his own devices had overcompensated. I was setting up 70-30 left and was too much in my left toes at the top, losing secondary tilt at the top. Monte described what I needed to change and I left the clinic feeling like I need to combine right heel/left toe pressure at the top with going shaft over shaft to maintain secondary tilt. Ball flight improved straight away. Encouraging signs...

I hope I can make a clinic next year and am already looking forward to the story the pressure mat tells. Hopefully it confirms that my new feel prevents any more bad habits from creeping in!
