Cantlay seems completely at odds with Rory on how they see the world of golf/future. I'd much prefer what Rory suggests to Cantlay's.

Tiger and Rory seem to have a pretty good relationship. Can't imagine Adam Scott would be concerned about Rory coming back in. I think it points to Pat and Jordan being against the idea of a more international tour or giving the LIV guys a get out of jail free card. It could also be Malnati against Rory wanting a smaller more elite tour (Say 75-100 guys). Who knows, its all speculation.

I’ve been reading multiple articles but not sure of cantlay’s objection other than Rahm got 400 million and pif wants to give 1 bill stabilization to pga members who passed on liv. So his argument is why would he get so much which it makes sense financially as he isn’t getting what he feels he is worth and liv damaged the pga tour by taking the 2nd best player.

I can't figure out Cantlay's angle. He was negotiating with LIV Golf to join them a couple years ago. Now he's suddenly anti-LIV? We know the guy doesn't really have moral scruples. Goldman Sachs on his clothing, lol

McIlroy said recently that back in the fall the name players held the Tour hostage to get limited field big purse events, and that there should be turnover of the no mane guys every year, both measures to protect the money and status of …people like McIlroy.  I think McIlroy was on the board then so if he was it was a huge conflict of interest.

 

He has proven himself to be oblivious to the interests of other people and not bright enough not to talk about it.

 

The idea of some compliant guy giving up his seat only if McIlroy gets it embodies a rigged, corrupt selection process with McIlroy going in and out to fit his whim.

 

On top of the rank and file apparently getting the short end on the money from the investors, to say this would be bad optics is an understatement.

 

If there’s one thing that makes him uncomfortable it’s that any of those no name guys on any weekend can go low and keep him out of the big money.

Can you imagine being the commissioner and dealing with this group of spoiled brats?  It’d be like being a Dad to 125 boys who all think they’re the s*** and if they don’t get their way their gonna take their ball and go home.  They all just need to stop being drama queens and shut up.  If they have a complaint, voice it to their commissioner in private, rather than whining about it at their presser every couple of weeks.

 

Kill the deal and move on.  The PIF offers nothing of value to the PGA Tour except the payoff of an extortionist.

 

And he’s gonna whine because he isn’t being welcomed back with open arms onto a board he walked away from just a few months ago?  Please.  That’s a level of arrogance that smells.

If you think Patrick Cantlay is looking out for the back half of the tour, you're drunk. 

 

Also, how did the rank and file get the short end of the stick from investors? What exactly are they worth that justifies equity? The punter doesn't make as much as the quarterback, the emergency bullpen catcher doesn't make as much as the all star shortstop.

The quarterback doesn't play too many playoff games without the punter.

 

The thing that gets lost is I think so many people have heard "we need the best players each other more often" that they've begun to believe it just by rote.  But the WGCs should be the ultimate example of why that isn't true.  Nobody cared about them, and this was exactly the thing we've been told was needed.  Well it was needed for those who could cash in because it meant more money to them, but ultimately, where are they now?

 

People in decision making/money benefitting positions can never seem to understand that when you have a lot or too much of something, it becomes less special.  If the top 30 play in the same tournament every week, nobody watches the event because there was one last week, and there will be another one this week.  The other events are what make up the fabric of the sport.  And more importantly, they give an incentive for the rank and file to keep at it.  Why are they important?  Because the stars need people to beat in order to be stars.  Stars are made at majors, and if only 30 guys play because the money has been so skewed the rest of the guys say to hell with it, the accomplishment is watered down significantly.

 

No the rank and file shouldn't be guaranteed vast sums, but the old rising tide lifts all boats applies here.  You can't skew the money too broadly in one direction, or the whole thing goes to pot.

 

And, no, Cantlay is not looking out for the bottom guys.  He is looking out for himself.  I just wish they would own it rather than mask it.

In a pinch, and with a little practice, I'm guessing Mahomes could run out there and punt the ball far enough to matter.

 

Not sure the punter could play QB at the NFL level and win Super Bowls...

lol.  How many QBs actually could?  And could he nail the coffin corner if needed?  Directional kicking?  And oh btw is the coach going risk a roughing the kicker against his QB?  I know I would go full bore at the QB playing punter...

 

There are more good punters than there are real good QBs.  No one is arguing that a punter should be paid the same.  But if a punter isn't doing his job, it makes the QB's job a lot tougher, and this doesn't even factor in the defense.  And a punter has to do his job when the QB doesn't do his....

Just making the point that the QB is far more important than the punter and rightfully paid more.

I think this vote was less personal and more about maintaining established policies. Changing the rules on a whim is very poor governance.

Agree. Which is why I applaud cantlay.  If a deal gets done , then everyone should  be paid an outrageous amount.  Afterall. The drama didn’t start itself.  The Saudis are courting the most eligible bride in competitive golf.  It’s time to pay or go home , and stay home.

Yep LIV didn’t meet his number so he’s definitely screwing negotiations up. I also feel like SSG wouldn’t invest as much as they did if they knew PIF was coming on board
