Review: 2008 TM Tour Burner Fairway Woods

Hi Guys - Just thought that I would provide some comments regarding these clubs:

Clubs in review: Three rounds with the newer 2008 Tour Burner Fairway woods (3 & 5), High Launch versions with the stock 49 gram shafts in regular flex. In addition, 1 round use of a tour launch verson 14.5 degree 3 wood with a 70gram stock regular.

Reviewer: Retired 57 yr old, 220lb with a slower smooth tempo, ~90 mph driver, plays ~2 or 3X a week in strong to moderate Hawaiian tradewinds, shoots in the 70's to 80's, decent ballstriker.

2008 Tour Burner Fairway woods - I have always been searching for good fairway woods that I am able to elevate off the deck consistantly. I have not been completely satisfied since the old pre - 2000 Callaway woods or the TM V steels. But I have found these new Tour Burner high launch woods to do everything I want in a fairway, at least for my swing..... I am able to easily get both these fairways up off the deck every time and can hit them high and straight, work them left and right just about on call. These woods just seem to want to go straight and long. I doubt it goes longer than a TEE, but it is the most consistant woods I have ever hit, bar none, which is of primary importance to my game....

Another pleasantly surprising fact is these shots off the deck, while plenty high, seem to bore through the strong trades much better than other fairway woods I have tried and I have tried just about everything.... At Last - I have found My Fairways that fit my swing and tempo!

I am even going to try a 7 wood as well but it will have to perform as well as my Nike Sumo2 Squared 2 hybrid which has a solid hold on my bag.... These Nike squares are something else...

A word of caution: When hitting from the tee you must tee it very low or you will sky it easily. They seem great on long par 3's working it all 3 ways but I will need a little more time to play with them. For example, a real strong grip will make even this light fader into a duck hooker......

As a side note, I also tried the tour launch 3 wood (14.5*) but I didn't get the same nice high trajectory, guess the other shaft has too high a kick for this older fella.. I also have a 17.5* 5 wood tour launch to try as well...

Hope this is useful to someone.....

Aloha

I had the same issue with you as far as getting high trajectory from a fairway wood. I settled on the Ovation 3 from Adams and it is definately HIGH. Glad you found one too.

Thanks, I have tried the older Ovations and they are pretty nice along with the V steel, Burner TP, but these new tour burner fairways are almost automatic from the deck as far as high and straight goes! I also tried to like the FTi-squareway since I loved the old FTi but we didn't get along with eachother :-)

I have to agree the HL Burner and the Sumo Squared Hybrids will remain a constant in my bag. I wish I could find a decent driver, that doesn't duck hook all the time.

Yes, these clubs are pretty amazing, the Nike hybrids really just insist on a straight penetrating trajectory. Actually, I can't hardly recall any skyballs or really bad shots with this hybrid. The fairways have been terrific so far. I have tried the high launch burner hybrid (3), not bad but couldn't beat out my Nike square. I returned it and will try a T2 or T3 tour hybrid.......

Thanks for the review. I've been waiting for someone to give input on these woods. Let us know what you think about the tour launch 5 wood.

Jess

Well, I have not taken off the plastic to hit the T5 yet because I like the high launch 5 so much :-) ..... I'll let you know when I hit it bud, I have a feeling it is high enough loft I might love it as well !!! :-)
