broomhandle putters! god help me

after years of inconsistent streaky putting and a now almost intolerable frustration with the flatstick I am considering going to a broomhandle so taht i can finally putt to a standard that reflects my play tee-to-green.

as a traditionalist I am amazed that i am even considering this move however I am willing to try anything. Any feedback/thoughts/experiences people have would be gratefully received

I understand how you feel. If it were up to me, I'd have some Hogan Apex blades and a Wilson 8802 in the bag . . . but instead, I have the FUTURA.

I had the same hesitation as you before I went to the FUTURA but having putted with it, I couldn't deny the results. So moral of the story: whatever works!!!

Welcome to the dark side! I would love to be able to use a standard putter. The yips have invaded my head with such vengance that they even take over sometimes with the Long Putter. My suggestion is to try a bunch of them and settle on the lightest one you feel comfortable with. They take an awful long time to get comfortable with on the longer putts. I'll wager that you dial in the putts under 20 feet pretty quickly. Just try to develop some feel with it and don't get overly-technical with it. Good Luck!

think it is a question of getting the ball in the hole although dont think I will be taking my blades out just yet

what long putters have you used? I have good touch and like to take a relatively long smooth stroke so I thought heavier would be better. Any recommendations?

I'm currently using a 48 inch Futura. I have a Ping B90 that I used

for several years, a Bobby Grace MK15 with the adjustable weights,

a two-ball, and several custom-made Slighters.

If you are wanting to experiment, I would start off with a very simple

design. The Pings can be had for a song on E-Bay. Plus, the design

of them would allow you to play with the weighting by experimenting

with lead tape.

Keep in mind that all Long/Broom-handle putters are going to be much

heavier than conventional. I was just suggesting a relatively light one

in comparison.
