Holed out!

So, obviously I holed out. The title makes that obvious. Some of you guys that have been here a while might remember this post about 18 months or so talking about my 1st hole out.

Normally I wouldn't make a thread about this as this is the 2nd time. I made a thread the 1st time for obvious reasons; it was my 1st time to hole out! This one today was different though because conditions weren't ideal and it wasn't as straight forward a shot..

So.. #11 at Westwood Shores in Trinity, TX is a 351 yard Par 4 that requires a layup off the tee. Water starts at 160 yards out and it's all carry from there to the green.

Since it was playing dead into the wind (10-15 mph), I teed off with a 4 iron hoping to get it into the 170 range or so. Unfortunately, I hit it a bit left off the tee was hung up under some trees around 180 yards out that also kept me from going directly at the green/flag. I pulled 5 iron hoping to hit a huge hook around the trees, carry the water and get it up near the green somewhere.

Well, I hit a shot that felt perfect and must've hooked 25-30 yards. I saw it hit the green and take a decent hop. I jumped in the cart, drove up and didn't see my ball anywhere around the green. Just for the heck of it, I looked in the hole and there it was! I was ecstatic! This was my 2nd hole out ever, but the fact that I had to hit a huge hook over water into the wind from 180 yards out made it that much sweeter!

Oh and both of my hole outs have come while playing alone so I may or may not be making this up! Seriously though, why can't I hit a shot like this when I'm playing with a group!?

I missed the first thread so I'll say congratulations (twice) . . .

. . . congratulations.

I also tend to play my best golf when alone in the early morning. I feel more relaxed, less distracted, focused, and have grown comfortable with the pace of play. There's also familiarity in playing the same course.

I've come to accept that I'm going to shoot higher scores on an unfamiliar track when I'm playing with friends as the dynamics of the round are somewhat different. I'm working to develop a repeatable pre and post shot routine in an attempt to mitigate a few of my mental hang-ups.
