Myrtle during World Amateur Handicap Championship

Hoping someone can help with this. My wife and I are going on our first golf trip on Tuesday, August 26 thru September 3 in Myrtle and I just saw that we will be there during the Myrtle World Amateur handicap Championship. I'm wondering if anyone has insight on what I can expect to deal with because of this as well as what Labor Day weekend will be like on the courses?

 

Course closings? Overcrowded and slow play? We're doing 6 rounds with two of them being 36 hole days. One of those will be midweek at two Pawley's Island courses and the other likely a Saturday or Sunday at Barefoot.

 

Any experience or insight any of you have would be extremely appreciated. Thanks

Almost any course that is hosting a World Am round will be closed for the whole day. You picked a heck of a week to come down, I am sure any course that is open for play this week will be super busy and I imagine you will be playing some pretty slow rounds.

[b]First:[/b] Only a few of the better courses hold the tourney rounds, There are many excellent ones to play

[b]Second:[/b] Night Life / Food. Restaurants and bars will be FULL. Making going out for dinner a bit tough. So plan accordingly. My wife does not play but went out with me the one year I went.. .way to crowded for her. Getting dinner was tough at times depending on when you went. The night life will be jumping that is for sure also. A lot go down just for the fun, not trying to "win"...

I refer to that tourney as the "Sandbagger Invitational" Never seen sooooo many 8-9 Handicaps shoot even par in my life....on courses they have never played LOL I can see if the home track is WAY harder...but on a course you have never played?[/i]

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, this was the only time my wife and I could coordinate our vacations.

I did some searching and it seems like each course has one day where they don't have any tee times until twilight so I don't think it's going to be too much trouble. Really I'm just worried about too many people getting in the way of me finding some new putters to bring back with me! Always a club ho.

I'll report back with how it ends up and maybe have some info for anyone who encounters the same situation next year.
