Chicago to The Prairie Club

I need the assistance of the Great Plains experts in planning my trip for next summer from Chicago to The Prairie Club. Due to the remote nature of the property I plan on driving to save a little on airfare and car rental. It looks like Omaha is the best half way point to stop and maybe get a warm up round in. I have seen the top places you all recommend for Omaha however I was wondering if there was anything better with a hotel to stay at within 1-2 hours of Omaha? Also to anyone that has stayed at The Prairie Club for 4-5 nights how would you rate the overall experience? It seems guests only have access to one course a day. Is this in fact true? Does the all you can play nature of the package allow for quick nines or last minute rounds? I appreciate all of your sage advice and insight.

I stayed at The Prairie Club for three days last month. Yes it is true that at the Prairie Club guests are limited to only one course each day as the other is reserved for members. However, you can play the 10 hole short course called The Horse anytime you want. For example on Monday, I was able to play The Pines course whenever I wanted... it is not that busy during the week. Sometimes I played with others, sometimes alone. On Monday I played 44 holes on that course.

I decided to stay in the Bunkhouse, since it was an unusual option. I would NOT do that again. It was okay, the room was REALLY small, and it was 150 yards to the clubhouse/lodge. Everyone on staff was pleasant and professional.... and HELPFUL. I would go back again in a minute.

Make sure you check 511Nebraska to see which roads are open. For example, I drove up from Ogallala, and would have gone up 97, however, it was flooded, so I had to go 83, which also had some flooding on a portion about 1/4 mile, however, I was able to drive through it. The 511Nebraska will also tell you about bridges that were destroyed during all the flooding and alternate routes.

The practice facilities allow you to hit all the balls you want or can

One caveat, I used the WAYZE app to travel throughout Nebraska (I did a two week golf trip). WAYZE messed me up only one time, when it had me turn down a dirt road about 1/2 miles north of the entrance to The Prairie Club. I had to turnaround on a narrow dirt road, and was told it happens to a lot of people.

I do not know what your travel path will be from Omaha from The Prairie Club..... If you are driving on a southern route, I would stop in Awarii Dunes... it is about 3 hours west of Omaha, just south of Kearney , NE. The course is listed as one of the top courses you can play in Nebraska by Golfweek, and there is lots of lodging. Enough for now, ask away.

A couple more items. When you arrive they will put your golf clubs on a golf cart. That will be your cart for the day. At the end of the day, they will put your cart with the clubs in the "cart barn" which is under the lodge, and at 5:30 a.m. the next morning they will have your cart out and available. So you can start playing at 5:30 in the morning.. it is light then. However, if you tee off that early, you may miss the complimentary buffet breakfast.

Is that course still open?  It doesn't look like they've updated their website or Facebook in years.  My plan is to drive down and play Landmand sometime and would just cruise over and stay/play at the casino after.

Yep, they have a 1 man scramble on May 23rd coming up.  Their facebook page appears to be active still, posted yesterday.

They also have a 3 day stroke play event where the winner gets $1k coming up
