help me choose new irons

hey friends. it's time for some new irons. i played the cobra king forged mb/cb the past few years in ctaper lite 110's because i got them for $250. couldn't pass them up & they look so good. not good for me though. i'm a rough 10 handicap, but when i got a lesson last week, the coach said i should be shooting in 70's regularly. issue for me is usually off the team, shanks & putting.

anyway, i piggie backed with my dad at a PGA Superstore fitting & ended up hitting the P790's with c-taper x130. i was hitting them well & attached is shot of my numbers. to be fair, i smoked this one. most carries were right about 170 with a launch angle closer to 23-25. i've had my eye on the sub 70 699 pro's, which are supposed to be similar to the p790 type clubs out there.

i already launch the ball high & don't spin it much with the irons...but the forgiveness of something like the p790 & 699 pros are very enticing...especially since i seem to hit it high enough to get the ball to stop even without much spin.

just curious what some of you folks who know more than me might say. if those are some of my #'s...would you make any different suggestions? is it a big deal that i launch so high & have less spin with my irons?

oh...and shouldn't using a certain kind of ball help me out? is there a ball out there that helps me launch it lower, but with more spin on the irons? i know the provx would give me more spin, right? but it launches higher too?

Yeah, you should get more launch and spin out of a more premium ball than what's normally in those hitting bays. I think you could probably get away with either of those heads or any number of other similar ones, but I'd give some more consideration to the shaft as well. The C-Taper 130X is a really big boy shaft if most of your shots with a 30º 7i were closer to 170. You're probably better off somewhere between that and your CT Lite 110S weight and stiffness-wise. I'd get a fitting of your own booked and do some testing of all those similar heads (maybe Cobra Forged TEC and T200 or T100-S and Apex or Apex Pro as well) but also narrow down a shaft that gives you the right consistency and dispersion.

i did hit some of the lite 110s...that is even what was in my previous set. but i ballooned those things. got way to high of a launch :/ thats why i ended up with something like the c-taper 130x's...to try to get the lower ball flight.

Try some i210s. Also try the Mizuno shaft optimizer for some shaft suggestions. 210s will give you more spin for stopping power, as they did for me. Built in forgiveness and playability. Get fit!
