what flex?

I was ordering it on Golfsmith's site and it says the S plays for driver SS between 95-105. That is ideal for me. However, Accuflex's website says that it plays 85-95...This is a pretty significant difference. Would you suggest I get an X flex based on Accuflex's website assuming I have upper 90/low 100 swing speed? FYI This is specifically a butt trim shaft according to Accuflex.

what i would do is take what accuflex has spec'd on their website as they are the ones who make the shaft, you can also talk with Jody from Accuflex on this. I'm sure he'll be happy to answer any questions you may have on Accuflex shafts.

Get the X unless you're super smooth and want more height and spin - these are nice shafts but play soft.

I agree with idrive400yards, a PM to Jody should clear up any questions. Remember that the Golfsmith website only bases SS recommendations on driver for the wood shafts and 5 iron for the iron shafts. Accuflex's recommended SS for the FH may be more specifically directed toward a 41-43 inch fairway club, I swing my driver in the 100 MPH range and while I haven't had my FW wood swing measured I'm sure with a shorter and heavier shaft I swing quite a bit slower than 100.

agree w/ the consensus, shoot Jody a pm, he won't steer you wrong- and just as an FYI, according to conversation I had w/ Jody on range at Nationwide event recently- most of the guys out there are using the Icon HL in STIFF, even the one who use X in other products, so speaking from personal experience, Jody knows what he's talking about and won't give you advice that he doesn't honestly believe will help!

i sent jody a pm. hopefully hell get back. fyi mitchell, im not looking at the HL, i am looking at getting the FH. the hybrid i am putting the shaft into needs a .335 shaft and is closer to a wood than an iron. it is the quick strike II. i am looking for more control out of the club because it is a 27*. so i wouldnt mind playing alittle stiffer in order to get control. but i dont want to not be able to at least load it a little bit....

I just spoke with Sam from Accuflex last week and got an E-mail from Jody regarding the HL. Check out their "shaft fitting page" rather than the product-specific page. Sam said they just updated their shaft fitting page with the most up-to-date and accurate info. The stiff in the FH is 91-105 MPH according to the shaft fitting page:

I went by the info on the product-specific page on Accuflex's site for the HL shaft and got the X because it said 100-110 MPH for the X flex, and I swing at 105. (It's since been changed.) Sam said they've been really busy of late and working on updating all their website info.

 

I would think the stiff in the FH would be a better choice. The 44" raw length of the FH cut down to hybrid length will make it play stiffer I'm sure. I think Mitchel's comment about the HL playing stiffer than many stiffs and the pros on the Nationwide playing stiff flex is helpful info, since the FH is in the same "family" of shafts in the Accuflex lineup as the HL.

 

Wait to hear from them, and make sure you tell them it's gonna be cut to hybrid length. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if they even reccommend regular flex given the shorter length it will be played at.
