I have to stop scooping!

A good drill to help you stop your wrists from breaking down through the impact and scoop your shots.

 

Take a short Iron say a sand or pitching wedge and make your usual grip way down the shaft, about 10" up from the head of the club. Make sure the grip is now to the left side of your left hip and not touching your body. Make your back swing as normal and then down and through swing by turning your body towards the target. If you make a good turn through impact correctly the grip will never come in contact with the left side of your body, thus keeping you wrist action passive.

 

This will create a good feeling when you are faced with a normal shot when using a short Iron, remember you need to keep that body turning towards the target.

From what i feel through my swing, hoganfan is on the right track.

 

I found the other day at the range that working on my swing using no more than a half swing with my irons allowed me to hold my release, get my hips well rotated and weight moving through to the left. I was actually amazed at the distance I was getting with these half swing drills. Many were actually further than some of my less-than-perfect full swings. I intend to incorporate the half swing drills into my practice sessions to help me develop a better impact position with regard to the breaking left wrist.

This may sound weird, but I'm a feel player and I'm wondering how should my hands look and feel at impact. Is it all right to try and exaggerate the bending of the rightr wrist coming through and should the leftwrist be bowed? If anyone has any comments on the half swing drills keep them coming because I feel like that is the approach I'm going to take in combatting with my problem.
