Miura Wedges

Hey all,

I'm new to the JDM sphere, but I'm well versed enough to know that Miura is JDM personified. I have a question about their wedges though. I recently bought one and did a custom grind on it (absolutely love the feel, amazing). Why doesn't Miura mill the faces of their wedges? I haven't been able to take it out and compare it side by side yet. However I practice chipping and pitching on my basement carpet and thought it would spin a little more. I have a 56/10 Mizuno MP-T4 and it just feels like it's biting the ball a little more than the Miura.

So to sum it up:

1. Why doesn't Miura mill the faces of their wedges?

2. Anybody have spin comments regarding their wedges?

A few things: first, most Miura available in the US is not JDM. I have some of the raw Miura wedges that Joe Kwok got and grinded for me, and they are Miura's International market version, not their JDM line. If they have the "M" logo, that's the international market version. The JDM Miura stuff all has MG, or Miura Giken on it.

Second, I'm not sure the milling has much if any effect on spin.

Third, max spin is not the Holy Grail. What every Miura wedge I've owned, both JDM and not, have had is adequate, consistent spin. The raw ones that Joe did spin a slight bit more than some Miura Giken ones I've had, not much. But the finish on the JDM wedges have to be seen up close and in person to be believed.

I love the feel of my Miura wedges. They perform beautifully and I can't say enough good things about them. The only complaint I would have is exactly what you identified, the spin is ok, but not enough coming out of the rough around the greens or out of the sand. A full wedge shot will stop where it lands, but never backs up. Obviously my swing and ball type play a role in this as well.

Unless we get an answer from Mr. Miura himself - I don't think we'll know why they don't mill the faces. It's not like it's a huge leap forward in manufacturing....they already have all of the equipment in house to do it.
