36 at Quintero or Talking Stick

Our group had originally planned on playing 36 holes at Talking Stick, but someone proposed playing 36 at Quintero instead. Seems like they both get good reviews. Driving distance is not that big a deal from where we are staying.

Thoughts on the better choice?

We are also playing Vista Verde and both We-ko-pa courses.

Tough call, for the pure beauty of a course I would say Q, it is absolutely stunning. For variety Talking stick has 2 courses, North and South.

Quintero is a tough track and playing it twice you can really mix up the tee boxes, 5 different sets.

Both courses at Talking Stick are typically in good shape, I haven't been out since the summer so I can't report on that. Also there is a hotel and casino out there. If you are in town during spring training the Dbacks are right across the street as well.

Didn't talking stick recently redo the greens on one course, making them hard as a rock and almost unplayable?

They had the south course closed for months, have not been on since they reopened.

Id definitely do a Quintero day over a Talking Stick day.

I'd do Quintero as well, although if your group is a little rusty from lack of play it can be a tough course. Talking Stick is definitely more forgiving. Both courses at Talking Stick are in great shape and the greens on the South course have softened considerably from when they reopened this summer. I've had no problems holding greens and the ball is starting to spin back on wedge shots again.

Talking stick very overrated imo. Quintero is a little bit too, but talking stick is probably not even top 30 in phoenix.

I'll say this about Quintero, it's visually stunning. So from that perspective, you won't get bored. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't choose 36 there. It's been a few years for me but I remember the layout being a bit monotonous in that every par 4&5 seemed to play uphill to a downhill par 3, rinse/repeat.

The best part of this, of course, is that all the par 3's are suuuuuper downhill and dramatic.
