My story so far...

Hey all,

 

I'm T.J., 22 from Ireland. I decided to join this forum to get views and opinions of the mass amount of members that are on here. I also want to start doing some blogs to track my thought and progress so i can look back on them.

 

A little about my golfing past, i first played golf when i was about 7 at a pitch n putt course near me and got hooked on the game. I played now and again until i got to the age of 15, that was when i decided to join my local golf club in the summer. I started off with a handicap of 18, played for a few weeks and got it down to 16 then literally went on hiatus from golf. A year goes by and i haven't hit a ball when i decide to join back again at the start of summer, i play for 3 months and i get from 16 down to 11.8. People started to notice my potential as i was getting phone calls to be a sub on the clubs men's golf team and getting calls to play match play events but i left again. I'm absolutely furious at myself over this because with normal progression i could be playing off a very low number right now.

 

After i left my club the last time, i never really played again, started to gain weight, a lot of weight, so much to the point that i weighed over 340 lbs. With some hard work i am now down to 250 which is great, i'm looking to get down to around 200-210, which would be around ideal for 6' 5". With most of the weight gone i'm looking to get back into the game i love so well.

 

I'm joining back with my club for the 3rd and last time next week. They said because i haven't handed in a card for so long after my last round my handicap is gone and i need to submit 3 cards to them to obtain a new one. This is very exciting to me, i feel i'm playing much better than when i was off 12, with a lot of well planned practice i'm a lot better at shaping the ball, different trajectories, distance, i feel good. I'm doing things now with a golf ball i couldn't even dream of doing back then, i've become much smarter. I'd be hoping i can get down to single figures when i resubmit for my new handicap. Fingers crossed.

Welcome! I just joined myself. Sounds like you are on the right track.keep it up and grats on the weight loss, I know that's not a easy thing.

Welcome TJ & Fasteddie as well, Where in Ireland are you from? I have some relatives down County Cork way. I myself took a number of years off from the game, did not play for much of my twenties & even into my thirties, when I came back I felt I had to make up for lost time, I put a lot of pressure on myself and my game and was easily frustrated. Like Eddie says your definitely on the right track, keep at it, be patient and have fun.
